Are any of the slipjoint manufacturers making an "easy-open" folder with the recessed handle?
I'm sure there are all sort of custom options. Just looking for something affordable. Maybe I missed it but I don't recall seeing that pattern except in vintage pieces.
Thanks.

That's a good question. There are lots of patterns on the market that you can open the blade by pinching it (sodbuster, Texas toothpick, gunstock, slimline trapper etc.) I can't think of any with the cutaway that you're mentioning. A quick look through the Queen and Case current catalogs didn't show anything. That may be a vintage thing. There are a few companies that will recess the scale a bit so you can get at the nail knick easier- GEC does that with the #25 barlow, for example. But the old-school half circle cutouts seem to have fallen out of fashion.

Queen Cutlery used to make a utility knife with this 'function' but I'm not sure if they are still in production.

Would be nice to see more of this, but,I suppose it makes cracking of the handles more likely.

I have a Marbles whittler ( new import) that has the cut away next to one of the smaller blades. I don't remember if there's one on the other side too ( I'm at work)

SMKW sells these for about $20 ( with a zippered pouch)

Single Blade Jacks and Double Blade are the only knives I have seen Easy Open. I think the openings in others are relieved openings.

One like this ?

I don't know of anyone producing this pattern now, and it's not real easy to find nice vintage ones.

Old Imperials do come up on the bay fairly often though, so that may be a way to get a decent user. Some of the Imperials can be found with bone handles.

Case did an ez open version. IIRC it was based on a large jack knife and was done in the 80's..
The only ones I remember seeing were in yellow.

Great Eastern /Canal Street/ Queen / somebody should revive this design!

I've been looking for a bone easy-open for a while.
Hope I can find one that nice!

I have gotten several off fleabay, and sometimes you can get a decent one for not much money. As has already been mentioned, the WWII era bone handled Imperials are frequently found on fleabay and can be had for a pretty low price. Here's one now (blade is well sharpened, but it will be cheap):

And here is a Camillus in good shape:

I would also recomend the Imperials as inexpensive users.

I got this one off the bay awhile back for a little over $20.

comoha got some information so maybe we can make an EO thread out of this.

Here are two from C.F. Wolfertz & Co. The top one leads me to think they were born in Walden, the bottom one has fuller blades and cocobola covers.

Where is your's Eric ?

Fran

P.S. John, Does the stamp indicate which Globe that one is from ? Nice jack.

Wow. I'm liking those EO teardrop jacks! That's a pattern I'd like to see come back too. Case used to make a really nice EO teardrop jack, way back in the day. It's be nice if somebody started producing that again, say, in ebony, with 154CM blades. Mmmmm.

Edit: Link and reference removed at the emailed request of Pappy1959.
