Many times I have seen a "% lockup" given. I know what good lockup feels like, but how do you tell what % the lockup is?

dnugget,

The % refers to how much of the framelock or linerlock is engaging the back of the blade. Less is sometimes considered more--some like to see @ 40% of the frame/liner lock engaged because it means there's plenty of room for it to move across the back of the blade as it wears over time.

Others, like CRK will have pretty close to full engagement right from the start--and I haven't heard any complaints from those who own his knives.

How far the leading edge of the lockbar is over the tang of the knife.

Dead center (half the tang covered and half showing) is 50%.
