G'Day I just placed a bid on the above 896K which appears to have unusual scales and wondered what the K signified...other than that just looks like older 3 blade stockman.Age?..worth?...any info appreciated.I am confidant in the knowledge my forum mates wont bid against me:D :D
I have previously bought some older schrades from this seller in stated mint condition and they had small cracks through the scales at the pins..is this a common occurance? Hoo Roo from Oz.

G'Day, I just carried out a search of previous posts and found out all I need to know about the 896K, thanks to all the previous contributors on this knife pattern. Hoo Roo

Didn't mean to ignore your question there Larry! I thought someone else would pick up the ball and give you some info and links. There were indeed several patterns made with the "K-Horn" covers, and for quite a few years. Post the best link and I'll see if there is anything I can add for ya!

Larry,
Here is a 896K (the upper one) that I got in trade with Glenn some time back.

A 234K with the K Horn scales

A 896K with the K Horn scales

This next pair has the "odd" scales on the top, regular "K" scales on the bottom, both tangstamped 896K.

Were they playing with plastics and mold jigging to come up with Staglon? Dunno.

Many Thanks Dale and Codger for your photos. Finding out all about a knife and then actually holding one is all part of the fun I reckon.......another day another knife! My wife keeps reminding me I only have 2 hands and about 500 knives......and thats only the ones she manages to see!......all makes perfect sense to me. Hoo Roo from Oz.

Larry,
There are 365.4 days per year so I figure using 2 hands, 1 day per knife per hand, you got a good couple hundred yet to buy.
See if that logic works on your wife... Mine just says "what-ever!"

G'Day Larry, I see your perfect logic mate.....I must admit when I clean my Bowies in bed last thing at night it must be kind of harrowing for her to see the shadows on the wall of some of my LARGE bowies...easy to get her undivided attention mate!!....next you're all going to tell me its not natural to want to clean them in bed ..its not like I sharpen them or anything.....does anyone else have favourites for a while and then turn their attention to another knife?...if you went fishing on the weekends with numerous white pointer sharks around your boat in my neck of the woods you would also like to carry a large sharp knife...would you not??
