I just placed a bid on a Hinderer xm-18 3.5 flipper with an extra scale.
I am now worried about knockoffs. Any way to tell if this is the real deal.
The seller says it is not a knockoff.
not sure if i can post the link...so will wait till soeone says its ok.
Not many on ebay with the extra blue scale if you do a search.

Any help??

I hopped over to the bay and believe I found it. Nothing jumps out as questionable. Good luck.

We don't talk fakes here because it may promote their business. Not cool is an understatement.

Looks legit, so legit in fact that I put in the high bid on it! Just kidding, hope you get it, looks like a great knife!

Looks like he sold the identical one on July 14, look at his feedback history, buyer bought it for $750 then it says relisted. Maybe you savy ebayers can understand what that is about. The buyer gave him positive feedback so why is it relisted?

Yeah...thats what got me started. I emailed him and he told me that some guy hit the buy it now button and backed out.
then I questioned it being a a fake. He swears its real.

Please do...I just have a bad feeling. I think I should just buy from dealers or a member here.

It you hit the sellers feedback score it will show you the last item sold which was this knife, if the buyer Hit the bin by mistake why would he leave him positive feedback? A quick check also shows this buyer has bought 33 per cent of his items from this seller, that also is questionable. I'm not saying the knife is not ligit, just the ebay list, relist, feedback stuff needs some explaining.

Sometimes people will leave a positive feedback when the seller has done something nice for them, like allowing them to back out of a Buy It Now without making a big fuss...

This is true.

But... If the buyer is able to leave feedback that means the seller never cancelled the transaction after the buyer informed him he didnt want the knife. Cancelling the transaction would mean the seller would get all of his auction fees back since the deal was a no go. It would be crazy for the seller not to cancell the sale since fees on that amount are pretty hefty.

Well, you don't get the listing fees (which are fairly low) back. The previously paid LISTING fees pay for the re-listing. There are no Final Value Fees (which would have been the higher $ fees for this transaction) assessed until the item sells and is paid for. So those fees would not have been charged if the item was never paid for. Clear as mud right?

I think Maprik is probably right, and the "buyer" appreciated being left off the hook, so he/she left positive feedback. Which well they should! By hitting the Buy It Now button by mistake, that person caused a few headaches for the Seller. Like wasting time, re-listing, and waiting for the new auction to close. Not to mention having his (by all appearances legit) auction scrutinized by folks on a online forum. Seriously, the auction looks legitimate to me.

Even if the transaction is cancelled the buyer can still leave feedback. I recently purchased an Mnandi and ended up returning it for a refund. The seller cancelled the transaction so he wouldn't have to pay the seller's fee and I was able to leave positive feedback for him on how promptly he communicated and issued the refund.

If the seller misrepresents the item, you can file a claim to get a full refund if you are unhappy. Of course, this is after taking the usual course of action (i.e. contacting the seller and requesting a refund.)
