I put a Bid on a horizontal knife on E-BAY > 1,600.00 to high and the seller wouldn't let me redact my bid, But when the bidding started > some body out bid me by 25.00 and I am glad they did. the blade was worn out and I found my Horizontals and I had one, > who ever took the bid > THANK YOU
Buck:

It looks like you bid right at the end of the auction? Too late to do anything about your bid after the auction ends.

I bid $400.00……just in case. :)

I figured that one might go in the $900.00 range.

What is the age or rarity of the knife in question that garnered such high bids?

It is a Version 1, Variation 1, the only horizontal BUCK on the right side. I don't think $1,600 is too high for that Variation if it were in really good condition. I have seen others go for about that on eBay, but they don't come available too often. Any ideas about what a Version 1, Variation 2 might bring? Think one in good condition might bring $2000 to 2200 they are so rare and especially in good condition. I have been selling on eBay, I might have to try on here and shake you up... Probably get a $200 offer.........

Sorry for double post

I would love to add any of the horizontal bucks to my small group. I am afraid that at that amount of $$$, that it would be just the beginning of the cost.

I think of the very rare knives like these, if in good condition, can be considered to be like a home with a great view or a quality piece of art. You pay more for it to start with, but then you can enjoy it for as long as you own it. When you sell, as long as you take good care of it, it will usually sell for more than you paid for it. Not many knives can do this. I like to think of them as investment knives.

I agree completely, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my better half does not see it that way. So I keep my out lay on the low side of a C note.

I don't know who the winner was, but I do know that a BCCI board member bid over $1,000.00, so he saw value.

The early brown sheath was one of the factors.

Good to see you back Dave. :)

Fast forward ten years and I didn't expect to get this for the $400.00 I bid. I would have bid maybe $700.00 if I really needed another 1st/1st.
I found one from nine years ago that had been sharpened a lot that went for over $300.00 in the link below.
