A lot of you seem to be looking for an original M43. There is one up for auction that looks original and complete on eBay. #145 816 9532

Good luck!

How or where do you enter the #145 816 9532 in order to see the write up on the khukuri?

I don't know how to get around ebay and that's why I seldom go there. And yet I know a lot of vintage khukuris as well as other knives are sometimes found to be real bargains there.

I've played around on E-Bay a little. Tried for a couple of Keris's at different times. To me the trick seems to be to wait till the last bidding day and go for it. By that time you'll get a good idea what kind of money you'll have to put up. Good luck cause I'm going to try for it.

I have been a frequent buyer on Ebay when funds allowed...

You can try BB's strategy which works. The action can get hot and heavy in the last minutes... be careful that you don't get caught up in the moment and pay more than an item is worth. You would be surprised to see how many people end up paying more money for an item than what it would cost to get it new...

After two years of watching and bidding on auctions... I have come to the conclusion that the best overall strategy for me is to figure out what the max I want to pay for the item and put that into the bid. Ebay will only put as much as needed online to get you as the highest bidder... then bid for you if needed until it goes higher than what you said you wanted to pay. I always check in on the last hour or so to make sure I'm still in the running. Snipers (BB's tactic) will wait until the last minute and make a run for the item if they want it bad enough. I have done this several times and it works... just takes more effort...

That is a fine looking Khuk... it'll be interesting to see how high it goes for. Thanks for posting it.

Hey you guy's, I had that M43 on my watch list the moment it came up!
I've got to be good though, I just bought a 2"x72" belt grinder for knifemaking and it set the ol' KPF back more than a bit.

Good Luck!

By the way, there is a khukuri collector on eBay, goes by oldephart, is that anyone here? He's mean competition!

Yeah, that's me. And it's Oldepharte with an "e".

I am not a collector...John Powell is a collector (and a gentleman).
I merely manage to acquire a khukuri now and then. I am often outbid by folks with more money than sense.

It is rare indeed to get a decent khuk for less than $60.00 off of eBay.

BTW, that 2nd eBay khuk discussed here should be approached with caution...look at the seller's feedback. Looks like a tourist job to me, also.

Another thing to consider when bidding on eBay is the shipping costs, especially from Europe or Asia. They can add a good percentage to the expense.

When you buy a khuk from our esteemed Uncle, he pays the shipping (in the US), which makes HI khuks generally more of a bargain than any auction goods. Also, consider Uncle's guarantee. Also, consider Uncle's unquestioned integrity.

Mike, thank you for the compliment.

As to that second khukuri ACStudios mentioned, I wouldn't bother. It is a small Newari style 'tourist' piece plus the seller doesn't sound dependable. There are lots of khukuris on ebay and I have gotten some very good pieces there. You have to know what you want and what you're looking at because there is lots of junk too.

I appreciate the personal mail I get from some of you and will answer questions if I have a solid opinion, but I can no longer quote price estimates for any kind of 3rd party transaction. I have had some bad experiences with some very rude and greedy people and I hope you understand my reluctance.

Thanks

Uncle, and John, my words are not kind. They are true.
I have "met" many fine people on this board. I have benefitted much from the experiences shared.

Don't let Mike fool you he's well on his way to becoming a collector, and the worst thing about it is he's got a great eye for the good stuff.I've lost several items on eBay to him over the past week.

thats o.k. I'll catch him sleeping one day..LOl...

I'll say he's on his way to becoming a collector!LOL Mike, after I posted I thought I forgot the "e". My wife gets the biggest kick out of your eBay handle. (My wife has also confiscated the little 12" village khuk I got recently off eBay. It actually has a nicely forged and well made blade.)

Happy hunting!

I was wondering about the second khuk when I posted it here. One of those gut feelings... but like said, I just don't have the experience to really judge. I knew it just didn't look like the others I've seen here or that John has posted...

Thanks for your comments John and Mike.
