Ebay sales of Spyderco knock offs.

I ALWAYS feel compelled to report to Ebay copyright infringement of Spyderco's unique design. I know that there are many manufacturing companies in China that have a blatant disregard for U.S. copyright laws. While I am browsing my regular searches, I see these counterfeits, it makes my blood boil. All I can do is report it to Ebay. I do get responses from them, but I do not know if they actually ban the seller, or give them warnings or not. I will do the same for any other manufacturer that is blatantly counterfeited, but since Spyderco is a brand of its own distinction, I really feel that these companies need to get their fingers stabbed a little bit if they are so brazen to ignore our laws. I hope we all do our part to shut down these operations and report these sales on a granular basis. They are relying on us to do nothing about it. OK, I feel better now, thanks for letting me vent. :o Has anyone else ever reported a counterfeit sale on Ebay? Today makes #3 for me. All are Spyderco fakes.

I've filed complaints for years. eBay has no financial interest in stopping any kind of sale or shill bid as every item sold is a commission. I wouldn't be surprised if the fraud on eBay goes into the tens if not hundreds of millions a year. What other business in the US or world for that matter has so many illegal, fraudulent sales actions? As hard as it was to stop, I simply don't use eBay anymore. I'd suggest the same to you.

There still are a lot of legitimate sellers/dealers on ebay that I enjoy buying from. I do not want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

On the Spyderco web site there is a forum to bring these kinds of issues to Spyderco's attention, so they can act on counterfeits and rip-offs of their designs. They make the point that they're a small company, don't have the resources to police every forum and auction site, and appreciate the help.

Hey Naga,
Thanks, I will do that.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to post them here either.

Actually, it would benefit the entire community if we posted links to possible counterfeit auctions on the general forum where more newer members post. If you don't know the finer points of what you're looking for a counterfeit can be hard to spot. Hell, even if you do know what to look for, the photography on ebay is so lacking it's nearly impossible to tell without having the knife in hand.

And if you're ever unsure, just ask. No one is gonna make fun of you for posting an ebay link and saying "is this real? Should I bid?" There are some great deals to be had on ebay. Sometimes you get lucky and get that great knife for half the price of anywhere else because the seller doesn't know what they have, or sometimes you get scammed because the seller does know what they have.

Psychopomp, I agree.
However, I think it's a question for the moderators. They are pretty down on 'spotting' as a practice, and for good reason IMO, and I wouldn't want to run afoul of a good rule and get myself banned.
I hate thieves, though.

I have reported fake Spyderco's on Ebay as well as the Spyderco site. I think I can speak for Sal when I say that he likes to know about these sellers. They even created a special sub forum for things like this. I hate to see knock offs!!!

I have also followed up on items I have reported to Ebay and they are still going strong. They are quick as hell to remove a butterfly knife or an automatic but not so much so on blatant design theft, and yes, it makes my blood boil too.
