Ebay seller sent me a GIN-1 Navigator instead of VG-10

I have already sent the seller an email, describing my dissappointment, but have not yet heard back. The Ebay auction described the Navigator as having a VG-10 blade, and that's what I wanted. Seller sent me one of the older GIN-1 versions. Should I make a big deal out of this? It's not like I'm out a bunch of money, and the GIN-1 version is quite nice. It's just that VG-10 is, IMHO, that much better. Also, it's the principle of the thing.

I'm a big fan of the GIN-1 (G2) steel, thinking outloud to myself that it's probably the best steel that Spyderco has ever used...

From what I have seen I like Gin 1 just as well as VG10 plus the gin 1 navigators seem to be selling higher.

As long as the steel isn't 420J2, I wouldn't sweat it too much, as you have one very good knife in the Navigator, anyway.:).

Irrespective of whether or not GIN-1 is better or worse than VG-10, you probably were baited and switched. The GIN-1 models were discounted severely by some on-line and catalog retailers awhile back.

Is it an G-10 or an Aluminum Navigator? The G-10 was only made with GIN-1.

It's got the Almite aluminum handles; sort of a blueish green color, just like the VG10 version. I still have heard nothing from the seller, but it's only been since last night. Another thing that bugs me. In the auction listing, it says "buyer to pay $4.50 shipping"

I paid the $4.50 and the box comes in, and I see that it cost him $1.29 to ship it. The auction says nothing about Handling; just shipping. I think he owes me the difference on that too.

Danbo, the Alu came indeed in GIN-1 and VG-10 (maybe even ATS-55). To some here it would not matter if it was GIN-1 or VG-10, however others might have a strong preference for a particular steel. Sometimes sellers don't have a clue what they are selling, and they just pick the specs from the web.

I suggest you speak to the seller about the shipping cost difference. I've had situations like that before but I don't really want to comment before your seller has spoken to you about it.

It was the VG 10 models that were discounted at SMKWs not the Gin 1 models,I think that is why the Gin 1 has been selling higher.

The ones from SMKW were said to be Gin 1 in the discrip. but most people got VG10

The wrong product is a very legitimate beef. The shipping is 'chicken feathery' for the seller to do that way, but unless he offered exact shipping, I don't think that you've got a beef there.

Well, the seller replied back, and apologised. Said they were unaware that their distribution center was misrepresenting these knives this way. Basically, they passed the buck and the blame onto somebody else. Said to send it back, and they would refund my money. I wonder, would they refund my shipping both ways? They also said they had changed the wording of their auctions, and I saw that they did. It now shows GIN-1 for blade steel.

Never did the seller say that they would ship me the knife that I thought I was buying, and I wonder if they even have the VG10 versions. Like I said, I'm not out a bunch of money, but I don't think I trust these people enough to send this GIN-1 version back to them. My next question; what kind of feedback should I leave? I'm certainly not going to leave positive feedback. Negative too harsh, or should I leave neutral? I may simply not leave any feedback at all. ???

It probably really wasn't there fault.I would leave a neutral feedback.

Why not negative? They shipped him the wrong product; he doesn't want it. Time at the PO is time wasted. Whether or not they misrepresented the product is moot, they should know what they are selling.

Everybody makes (small) mistakes. They offered to correct it and might even refund your shipping money if you asked.
Negative is too harsh. Neutral is better!
