I won this buy-it-now auction last week.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=130287856595

I looked it over several times but didn't see anything that screamed out at me like some do, so, based on his listing it as "BRAND: Schrade USA", I made the buy. Well, I got it in the mail today, and it's a Taylor Schrade clearly stamped "China" on the pile side. I contacted the seller, even though his auction says he doesn't accept returns, asking for a return and refund as it wasn't what he listed it as. He responded that because Taylor Brands LLC is owned by an American, he did nothing wrong by listing as "Schrade USA" and that I got what I got and have to live with it. Well, as they say, buyer beware, but I let him know I will warn others about his shady practices. So beware of Troys2600.

I hope you left negative feedback, he as a seller can not leave you negative as long as you paid for the item within proper time frame. He is still showing 100% positive.

Dave,

If you paid with Paypal, file a dispute for an item not as described. They will probably refund your money.

Keith

I did pay with paypal, so may file with them. I also just left him negative after 2 emails requesting he make it right, and both times he refused, claiming he did nothing wrong.

Dave file with paypal, it was sold not as advertised. And he can never leave neg feedback, E bay does not allow the seller to leave neg feedbacks anymore!

ps I did not know that was you, thank you

Should not have been listed as Shcrade USA and from looking at it could tell the warning signs. First it was listed as brand new (red flag) second on the Chinese made knives the sheaths are more rounded at the bottom. Also, the rivets are smaller diameter on the handle. The good sellers will have a close up photo of the tang so you can clearly see. The Taylor brands knife boxes have "Schrade Tough" in yellow lettering.

Clue #1
When they can't spell Schrade......

Clue #2
I've got one myself and love it.
He should give you your money back
That is bunk
Sorry for your loss

I learned about Taylor Schrades the hard way as well....:D

If it was me, I would file with PayPal for a refund.
That is totally bogus! :thumbdn:

On his future auctions I would repeatedly ask if the knife is made in China.

We can all chech his auctions now and then, when he lists something ask questions so he intrepets that more folks are onto him. perhaps that will make him back off.

I sent the fellow a polite message and let him know that, in the Schrade collector community, "USA" means a US-made knife. Maybe he'll avoid such listings in the future.

Roland,
I believe that is one of the ones they contracted Camillus or some other US maker for shortly after the closing. If it's like the one I have, the insert in the plastic tube says "made in the U.S.A.", whereas all the original Shcrade and Schrade Walden ones I have seen mention the "Schrade Cutlery Corp, Ellenville, N.Y. 12428. Mine also has a very poor and unevenly stamped tang stamp.

Of course, it's easily possible for me to be wrong.

Dave

You right Dave! I don't know if anyone has posted who these were actually made by, the first in the range were made by Camillus, then some by Bear and Sons Cutlery, the one linked to is from a third manufacturer. Taylor owns the rights to the tang stamps I believe, so could make these identical to the original Schrade Walden knives. many folk have been mislead with these knives thinking they were originals, the long part number gives it away as a Taylor knife. Unfortunately the seller has not listed the knife as anything but what he actually has.

interesting ! 3rd manufacturer ! Who ? too bad it's NOT Canal Canal Street Cutlery. now that would be a modern day Schrade.
but back to topic: in the last 2 years the mimicry of Schrade and Schrade-Walden knives and stampings and packaging has increased in scope.
we're pretty much the 'experts' and some of us get fooled. so i was not knocking the seller. many have no clue as to the recent history, which is so significant to all of us.
but i think it helpful to present "the fooler knives" ('cause they can fool ya) as they come up.

I've been off the opinion for a long time, that it's just a matter of time until Taylor starts stamping his Chinese knives with USA on the tang.
As far as the eBay transaction,a Paypal claim is the correct way to resolve this.
It's simple and easy to do,but there is a time limit so don't delay.

hi, if you go to the kutmaster web site their making their own knives with to me looks like the exact green handles as the schrade waldens, that were made recently,im willing to bet utica had something to do with the making of these recent s-w knives,by the way i like kutmaster knives,i just got their recent 2009 catalog and they added a few usa made knives to their lineup that i like, thanks.

It took me a while but another liar and cheat is "rwmandson." Buyer beware. He advertises USA and sends chinese crap. Won't answer emails. So I chopped up the cheap knife and mailed it back to him in pieces. The satisfaction was worth the $19 bucks.
