eBay vs auction house

I'm thinking of selling off my Schrade folder collection. I've listed a couple on eBay recently but my brother-in-law who works for an auction house says I'll do better with them as they have regular knife auctions with serious collectors attending. Any opinions?

Thanks

list them here in the exchange forum. a membership is about the same as what you will pay in fees if you list several knives seperate. After the knives have sold you still have a years membership with search capabilities etc.

An auction house might have some dedicated collectors of high dollar knives. If that is what you have, and they do their job, you might do well. But fees can eat into your gains substantially. It is one way to avoid doing any of the work yourself.

eBay reaches millions of knife collectors worldwide. But realizing the highest prices requires a lot of work on your part. Excellent and plentiful photos, honest identification and description, and you have to collect payments, pay fees, and pack and ship. If your knives are less than new, or rare and desirable, this might be your best bet.

Obtaining a gold or platinum membership here is another option, as mentioned. BladeForums now has over 100,000 members worldwide, most of whom are hard core collectors or users. But knives aren't auctioned here. You list and price them. You collect payment, pack and ship.

There is another option, that of consigning them to another individual to sell such as Mr. Levine or Mr. Russell. Both are experts in knife identification and appaisal.

Codger says "100,000 bladeforums members most of whom are hard core collectors"!...that may be so but at least some of my books are about knives. So there! Hoo Roo
