Ebay's "CYA" policies on switchblades

There's a thread over in Dealer-Sales titled "Screw Ebay," wherein Mike Turber is annoyed that Ebay's switchblade police yanked his auction of a bunch of perfectly politically correct pocket knives because somebody following the 1SKS link might find politically incorrect knives over there.

This does seem like excessive caution. Is it?

Some jurisdictions have laws against advertising merchandise that would be illegal to sell or possess, and I see that Blade puts a long ultrafineprint disclaimer under all switchblade ads there. But banning a general ad or link to a company where politically incorrect merchandise may be found?

Perhaps industry people here can enlighten us on whether Ebay is building a fence around the fence around the law.

Of course, hanging around "knife people," I have come to believe that anybody who says that spring-assisted opening makes a knife inherently evil is some kind of nut. Of course, that means that a majority of the public and of lawmakers are nuts, but how many of us have always suspected that we few are the only sane people?
