Ed Caffrey is known for his beautiful damascus pieces which deservedly won him the title of Master Smith at last year's Blade Show.
This, however, is about a nice little working knife that Ed makes at a bargain price (especially considering his current status).
I was fortunate enough to take delivery today of one of Ed's EBK's.
This one features a blade of differentially heat treated 1084, approximately 3" in length,(2.75" of cutting edge), with an OAL of 6.25".
As you can see in the picture, it comes with a beautiful temper line and is marked Caffrey on one side with M.S. on the reverse.
The tang is fitted with blue/black g-10 scales.
The knife, though small affords a nice grip in the hand, and the rounded spine allows the thumb to press down forcefully without any discomfort. Examination also reveals a nice distal taper to the blade.
The kydex belt sheath is rigged for horizontal carry, but truth be told, this piece would make an excellent neck knife as well. (Albeit in a different, less pointy sheath.)
All in all a very nice piece for a whopping shipped price of $107.50. Not too many master smiths offering their wares at that bargain price. It's nice to know that Ed has kept his feet planted firmly on the ground.
