I want an opinion of this knife. Is aus8a at 57-59rc apropriat for blade? is the recurve hard to sharpen? What are the proper sharpening tecniques? Will it stand up to hard service? Is it a good value? Any help in making the decision to buy would be helpful.
Thank You
Ken

I have had one of these for a while. I have done a bit of chopping with it and it held up fine, no edge chipping or anything, and sharpening it back up was no probelm.

Cutting and slicing is very easy with this knife and edge holding is pretty good...about on par with other well done aus8 blades. I did notice when using it as a chopper that its not one of its strong points. It will do in a pinch, but its not blade heavy enough for that, and unless a lanyard is used, I always felt like I better hang on tight or the knife was gonna go sailing across the yard.

Fit, finish and grinds are all well done, except the fit of the guard could have been a little better, it has a couple of small but noticable gaps.

The sheath is leather, and one the better quality leather sheaths to come with a production knife.

IMO its worth the money, and depending on your intended use (cutting, slicing, or just good looks) then you oughta be happy with it. If you want a good heavy duty efficient chopper then you will probably want to find something larger and more blade heavy.

Just poking around the Russell website, and noticed that there are 3 "Camp Knife" models under the AG Russell production line. I assumed you were talking about the 1965 Camp Knife and that is the model my comments apply to.

If you were referring to one of the other models, I cant comment on those as I dont have any of them.

Sorry for the confusion.
