Today I finished two little knives, which were laying around for quite a long time.

The first one is a little dwarf I made from the leftover of my grinding platen :D.
The filework is filled with black epoxy between the scales.

Some Specs:

Length: 13 cm
Blade: 5,5 cm
Steel: D2
Finish: mirror poliehed
Scales: Ebony; SS pins

The second is a knife I made of scrap pieces I had laying around.

Length: 18 cm
Blade: 9 cm
Steel: Damasteel
Finish: deeply etched and mirror polished
Handle: SS bolster, red spacer, Brown Mallee

Looking forward to all your comments and critiques.

The little 'dwarf' knife is a very nice piece of work, as is the handle on the second knife.............just not too wild about that blade tang thing goin' on. ;)

Beautiful shape and especially filework on the first one! The second has a very 'interesting' shape (still trying to decide if it's good or bad, but it definitely gets my attention), but I do LOVE that damascus pattern. Very nice grain in the handle as well. Great work!

I like the Dwarf, the other one looks all out of proportion to me though. I like the blade and I like the handle, just not on the same knife.

Thanks for your comments, thats really encouraging

The damasteel knife seems to create controversy. But most say that the proportions just don't fit. I'm also not sure if I like it or not.
It's size and shape was defined by the scraps I had.
Here is a link to the CKD with some pics of the making.
The tang is a great place to put your index finger on if it comes to fine work.

And here is a better pic of the mirrorpolish on the ebony dwarf (I took it before I finished the scales):

As reward ;) and to keep you updated here are some projects I'm currently working on. Some I've posted before but they were lost during the latest crash of the forums.

A 20 layer damascus bowie/fighter and a little one in plain steel.

Both knives are made from 1.2842 (I think it's O-2 in the U.S.).

The one on top has a filework over the whole spine.
It's a fighter I am making for my father who has to pay all the knifemaking bills for his 16 year old son :D.
One day he's going to be a poor man because I can't stop buying tools and equipment ;).

I would be interested in what you think of them so far. I hope you like them

I like the Dwarf knife, but the damasteel? Not sure if I like it or not, it's defenatly an atention getter though!

Those two at the bottom look like they'll make great knives, good classic styles.

A big thumbs up for the little one in the first pic. The damasteel knife? Undecided right now; maybe it will grow on me.

Sorry that I'm answering that late, I just have forgotten it  .

Thanks to all of you, for your comments.

And just can't let you get off without showing you the knifes I'm currently working on.

The 20 layer bowie, I nearly destroyed it during grinding, the grinder grabbed it several times, and I had to change my original plans for it.

My first forged blade. I ground it today, I was to ill to go to school but not to ill to grind some steel :D. Thats always annoying my mother:p.

All blades together, the one at the top was laying around for quite a while but I'm going to finish it this weekend.

Marcus, you are only 16 & you're doing this stuff? That is great; makes me feel like there is hope for the world!

Re the knives: the little "ebony dwarf" is super. If you like fixed blades it is nice to have one small enough to carry in a pocket. Re #2, I have to agree with Keith that the blade & handle are really beautiful, but the exposed tang section would worry me.

Thanks for sharing!

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I like the Dwarf more too. It fit's well in my hand and is comfortable to use.
I'm going to make a sheat for it, but I'm not sure if I am able to realy use the knife because I don't want to scratch the mirrorfinish (another reason why I normaly prefer a fine satin finish :))

Marcus

If you need a home I'll adopt you. You can teach your old Pop some tricks. Just kidding Marcus. You are going to be a contender in the knife world for sure. Come over and say Hi in the shoptalk section and show some work.

Mark

Thanks a lot Andrew. I'm looking in the shoptalk too, but never posted something there. But that will change.

Since this afternoon the ebony dwarf is a proud owner of a sheat.

The sheat is black too as it is the knife.

It's my third sheat and this time everything worked out quite well.

The only problem I have is to keep the holes aligned on the backside of the sheat when I'm drilling them. The most are on the line but some are off and that looks like unclean workmanship although its only on the back.

But I think sheatmaking will be a quite nice additional hobby to knifemaking.

Looking forward to your comments.
