I know natural materials require some care, but I was wondering how does Ebony wood on a slipjoint folder compare in durability next to say cocobolo or bone. Thanks
I would say in my very un-educated view that Ebony would probably outlast them all!, just have a look at most very old Slipjoints, the Ebony in most cases is still in very good condition.
Ebony is a very dense wood. One of the densest available. It will hold up very well compared to other woods and bone. It is not as likely to chip as bone if it is dropped but can scratch and dent under rough treatment. But through it all, it will last as long as the knife with minimal maintenance. It is no wonder it is a favorite among traditionalists.
