I was there from about 1:30 to 5:00PM. There were no BFC Forums name badges in sight.

As I was chatting with Valerie Elishewitz, she directed me to the table where she thought the name tags were available, but, no luck.

This would be a great chance for some of us to get together and share some experiences and just have a good time. BTW, the show is really top notch--really a good group of makers and luminaries in the knife field are there to get to know and talk to.

Maybe tomorrow better luck?

Dick

Hi Dick,
Yes, there were no name tags at RJ's table. I think there was a mixup between him and Brian Caffrey. There were lots of us sitting at tables in the hall. I saw jbravo,philL,nakano2,ebbtide,fq55,ancientsul,trader1,skymasterson,frank recupero,RDT,ronald reagan,mr.tim herman, brian caffrey,grnamin,doc47...,and probably a few more.
If you go back on Saturday, take a peek outside at the tables, and if you see a bunch of guys together that aren't wearing those knifemaker/exhibitor badges and ask if they're from the forums. Or just hang out by Bob Dozier's table and ask him to point out Nakano(Kin) to you. He can't seem to go more than 15 minutes without showing up there.
Good luck.
Oh, forgot Rugger. Now he's probably gonna headbutt me or something next time

Also forgot Win Heger. He was there with his better half all day Friday.

I saw Louis when I was coming in I saw his Jerry Hossum knife, very nice BTW. I turned around and he was gone, never saw him again.
I thought I saw Yitz there, but not for long. I had a chance to sit down with TomW and Anne for a while, I'm glad to say Tom was looking and feeling a lot better than the last time I saw him. He hooked me up with a bunch of his great pouches, snakeskin and suede.

For me my first stop was Tim Herman's table I wanted to see his new Wall Street Tacticals before he sold out. I finally got to handle one of JW Smith's knives, but I had to wrestle out of the hands of the guy that bought it. My next stop was to look for some stag scales for upcoming custom projects, they sure didn't have the amount or quality of stag they had at the Nov show.

This was a good show lots of the makers still had knives to show; Ron Newton, R. Vallarde, S. Johnson, Kessler. Nilsson had the May Blade cover knife there, very nice. I was asked last night on Chat which knife most impressed me I would have to say it was Franco Pacchi. He had this one knife where his wife had scrimed a wolf face on one side and a tiger on the other, the pins were like amber and when you held them up to the light the eyes glowed.

I think I like the Nov show better, this is more Hi-end stuff. Nice to look at but way out of my budget, in most cases I don't even ask the price.

First day of a show usually turns out to be Show-and-tell with BF's members, I was in the lobby a lot more than the show. Today I go back and really look at the knives.

I'll check back later.

Yep. Ran into Phil again. Met up with Remster and Esav Benjamin. Chatted for a while and headed out to lunch at a nearby deli. Will be back on SUNDAY. (with a few more goodies!)

I was there guys! Phil, we were looking for you to see if you wanted to grab lunch. My brother even grabed the Microphone and paged you to come to the front but we could not find you. I guess the problem was the lack of name tags. I did get to meet JerryO, very nice guy with some sweet knives on him. I got to meet Tim Herman which was a real pleasure, he is a FUNNY bastid. Nakano, I was looking for your name tag but did not see it

I was really looking forward to meeting you. Does the offer still stand for that Copy of NY laws? I'll drop you an email. Most of my time was spent talking to RJ Martin and to Bob Lum. I picked up a small chinese folder from Bob. Oh well, there is still the NY custom knife
show in November

I will post pictures of my Lum when I get the chance.

Hi, guys! Got to meet some of you on Friday. Would have liked to chat more, but I was only there for a couple of hours and was running around trying to see as many knives as I could. You know, "so many knives, so little time." A lot of beautiful things to see and handle. I got a couple of great little folders. One from Rick Dunkerley and one from Joe Kious, both people whom I've been wanting to get something from for years, and finally did.
I'll be back on Sun. after 11:30 and hope I can meet some of you and chat.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you guys!

Well, I did meet a few, but not many. Phil - I gotta agree that that Pachi knife was spectacular. I came pretty close to buying one of his engraved hunters but picked up something else instead...

It was great to see and handle some of those knives up close. ECCKS is nice because you see alot of good European makers there. Dietmar Kressler for example, had an amazing "big bear" style integral subhilt in ivory that you really need to see to believe. Jonny Walker Nilson's knives (and sheaths) simply can not be appreciated in pictures alone. His carved reindeer horn is simply amazing. Now I know what people do when they live above the arctic circle and have 2hrs of daylight in the winter!

And Roger Bergh's axe and viking sword... man! Incredible damascus work!

And Connie Persson's stunning mosaic damascus bowie... simply incredible!

And Timmy Herman's Wall St. tacticals were also VERRRRRRRRRRy nice. A sleek, sexy, and elegant design, it'd be an extremely classy knife to wear... for a girl

And Steven Rapp's work in process - man, will that knife be something when it's done!

The Velarde/Johnson collaboration dagger - sweet!

And did anybody see the Asian gentleman who calls himself the "Captain?" He also had some very nice folders with really innovative locking systems, like his "A-lock" and "C-lock." I had never seen his work before but I was VERY impressed.

Howard Clark had a beautiful small fixed blade there too. Forged modified 1086 steel with a distinct hamon, beautifully intricate filework, and presentation quality mammoth ivory bark scales. I would've taken it home had it not been sold already... At least I know it's in a good home (and possibly on display at the Ironwood Gallery in Ridgefield, CT - if you're near there, stop by and tell Richard I said hello

).

Well, I guess its safe to say that I had a great time there.

Next year we'll have to coordinate a little better.

Be sure to check in Custom later for pics of my new damascus folder by Al Dippold.
