Just attended the East Coast Custom Knife Show in Jersey City, NJ.

Lots of great, beautiful knives, lots of great, nice makers.

However, I had a discussion with one long time knifemaker.that had a table. He had several handmade fixed blades and... many folders for sale on his table that I'm 99.9999% sure we're just factory made kits that he put together. Basically they were $25 kits he was putting together, marking his name on the blade, and selling for $300 and up. When I asked him if he made the folders from scratch, he sarcastically answered that he had elves from the North Pole making them in his shop. He then said that he did all the work...

Talk about a rip-off...

Just keep walking. That room is filled with a lot of knowledgeable knife people. They can smell the same rat as you. I doubt he'll do much business. Might even be the last year you see him there.

Glad to see he has been caught out in his deceit. We had a guy do the same thing at a show down under last year. He was selling $15 Chinese made folders for $40. Not a huge mark up but he admitted to selling nearly 100 of them. Claimed he did all the work including the Damascus blades.

He is now very well known for all the wrong reasons and banned from every knife show. Unfortunately he is still peddling his lies at Gun Shows.

The crazy thing is he makes beautiful fixed blade knives. He was selling them at the show last November also.

I would think it's insulting to other makers and collectors. Plus the fact that he outright lied to me...

And he's Knifemakers Guild member !!!!
