Just got back from wondering around the show for a while. I will go back tomorrow to buy the knife I picked out and just look some more. Beeaauutiful stuff. This is my first custom show, my first custom knife and I am hooked! My rate of acquisition will slow dramatically but my satisfaction will go up by more.

Any other show-goers out there?

Hey congrats on your upcoming purchase...I can remember my first show too...what a great experience it was!

I was hoping to attend the NY show but I could not make it in the end :( Please tell us more about what you saw..do you have any pics to share??

Thanks,
RL

No pics sorry. Chris Reeves, J Lile, d'holder, Ron Gaston (almost bought one), Don Lozier, 3 different Hibbens (are they all related?) I bought a beautiful hunter from Russ Kommer, an Alaskan maker. Never heard of him befor but his knives fit my hand perfect and the fit and finish was awesome. There was a young guy from California, Hogstrom, very nice stuff but beyond my budget. Wide range of styles were there. Room was crowded.

kl: Hang around over the weekend. I was there today and had the pleasure of meeting BrianC., PhilL, Ebbtide, Yitz, Doc4570 and others as well as some of our best makers like Pat Crawford, Bob Dozier and on and on.

I can't get there tomorrow, but I'll be back on Sunday. It's worth while hanging out. You can get the BFC nametags donated by BrianC. at the Martinsite table, RL Martan.

Knifenerd, you forgot me, I'm hurt:D
Lot of good people there today. Show was fair, this one's never as good as the November NY show. Yes, the Hibbens are related. Gil and Daryl are brothers and Wes is Gil's son.

For those who go to the show. Stop by Joe Szilaski's table and take a look at his miniture folder. He worked on it for months and I have seen pictures. It is absolutely an unequaled knife from a true master craftsman. Let me know what you think.

Sorry Lifter:eek:  Forgot to mention Sky Masterson also. That's what happens when my aging brain get OD'd with all that knife-input!:D

Also had an interesting discussion with Win Heger and a gentleman who was about to purchase a Loveless. He was at the bar trying to attain the proper level of "liquid courage" before dropping a major payroll.

Ed, that Szilaski miniature was awesome. Our pal Phil dragged me back to his table to show me and he was right, the work was unbelievable. As Joe told us, working on parts that small he invented some new curse words that arent in any dictionary,LOL.
He also had a beautiful tomahawk.
Also Gary Shaw had a Fowler(Fawn?) that was the smallest I've ever seen, about a 2" blade and maybe 5" overall.

Looks like I missed out on the action on Friday, But I was there bright and early on Saturday. This was my first knife show, and it was great. Like I said in the other thread, it was really something to talk to knife legends, and not just read about them in Blade Magazine or here on the Forums. I especially enjoyed talking to Pat and Wes Crawford (wound up buying one of their Titanium Daggers - very cool). Another real treat was talking to Jot Singh Khalsa. What an artist! I know if I had a spare 1 or 2K, I would have walked away from his table with more than I did. Jim Minnick was another individual that was a pleasure to talk to, as was Chris Reeves and the Elishewitzs', also discussions with Jim Lile and Bob Dozier rounded out the day. This was definitely one of the best Saturdays I've spent in a ling time. Thanks to everyone for a great show.

Ken

fisherk-- You talked to Jim Lile? I see the Lile knives folks a lot at shows here in Kansas City, but I hope I don't see Jimmy for quite awhile, I just turned 28

My wife and I just got home from ECCKS.

We left Cleveland yesterday at 4:30, got to our hotel at 1:00 AM, went to the show for about 4 hours, chatted with some great forumites, spent $$$$ on a couple of customs, took in some NY cuisine, a couple of cab rides, a walk through Times Square and China Town, left NYC at 4:00 for the 8 hour ride home....

I figure 17 hours in the car to spend 4 hours at the show and eat some of the worlds best food... and.... oh yeah pick up a couple of new customs (:D) in about a 32 hour period to be well worth it!

I scored a new Crawford and one of the best Lum folders I have ever seem, well that's my opinion at least.

Overall a great show!

Ken, Jimmy Lile died a number of years ago-around 94 or 95 I think. The guy behind the table runs the company now for the lady who owns it. You can tell the difference between knives made by Jimmy and after he died because the ones made after have a small dot above the name. The way I understand it, after Jim died, Marilyn(Mrs.Lile) ran it for awhile and then sold it to the lady who worked for Jim doing the books. If I'm wrong about this, someone please correct me.
Yup, Jot is a great guy, fun to talk to.
I had a great time talking to Bob Terzuola again, great guy and got to meet his lovely wife. Of course Tim Herman is always fun to talk to as long as you dont get behind him. And of course had a good time talking to my buddy JW Smith,he was sold out(after 10 minutes) and just having a good time.

Hey it was good seeing all the familiar faces and the new ones too!
My favorite (unaffordable) knives were Slobodian's bowies. One was named the Abeline and I forgot the other. Beautiful work!
I was there Friday from opening till around 5-5:30 and today from
3:30-5:30.

I had really nice talks with Stephan Rapp, SRJohnson & Shane Taylor. These guys knew I couldn't afford one of their blades but were more than willing to answer my questions and jus' talk knives.

Our own Nakano2 was behind the Dozier table. He showed me a folder that Bob made out of D2 damascus, mokume and fossilized ivory! (Kin, correct me if I'm wrong :))
That was one classy folder! A huge step away from Mr. Doziers FFF, no nonsense wares.

I also spent a good amount of time with Les Robertson. He gave me a complete tutorial on how to critique a knife. I mean the details, the nitty gritty ;)
After that we talked collecting for awhile and again,I was impressed with how generous knife folks are.

And Lifter...I just had to get "the little brother" from Les ;)
I'll try to put up a scan tomorrow :D
Off to enjoy knife overload & dream of things pretty, shiney & pointy,
I remain,
Ebbtide

Ebb, hah, glad to hear you got the other Denning.
I'm trying to figure out how to wrap up the Rapp Price bowie I got you for your birthday:D
Brian J, I think the show is open till 3 on Sunday. If you go down there, kick Brian C and Doc outta the bar;)

4:00 PM but, in my experience, some exhibitors will close up shop before then. Get cracking! :)

LOL, Dave. I was just getting re-hydrated. Yeah, that's it. I was there for health reasons. ;) The exhibit hall was way too hot.

Seriously, it really does help the decision making process... or, at least, eases the guilt about $$ spent. :D

OK I guess I didn't talk to Jim Lile(unless I was having an out of body experience LOL). I didn't catch the first name on his name tag, but I could have sworn that the last name was Lile. The woman at the table had a different last name, but I don't remember it. It was still an interesting conversation. Thanks for correcting me.

Ken

Im glade you guys had a good time. It was kind of nice to put faces with some of the names on bladeforums. The worst part is no one uses there real name and you dont know if you are talking to some one that is on here or not. I did see a lot of people with bladeforums on there shirt and that was cool. I thought it was a good show i got to meat a lot of coustomers that had knives of mine that i had never met me. And picked up a lot of new ones just a fun show.

Sorry I missed all of you guys this time around- I was sitting at my desk here in VA at opening time & was twitching, swearing & sweating... experiencing a Serious Knife Jones. I'll see you folks in November.
