Echelon problem

I recently traded for Echelon and I dyed the handle. When I took it out and was putting it back together I noticed a problem. The recessed hole for the pivot has a slot rubbed through on one side of it. You couldn't see it when it was the original color but now that it's black it's noticeable. It is hidden under the screw but I still know it's there. Since I took it apart to dye it will Kershaw warranty this or is my warranty voided now.

I'm pretty sure that level of modification voids the warranty. However just to be sure, you should call them and tell them the whole situation.

Can you post a picture of this issue?

I just got off the phone with them and Yes my warranty is voided. I explained to them that you couldn't see it when the handle was the clear G10 and the only reason I saw it was because it's a darker color now. The lady told me to send it in and they'll see what they can do. I'll post pics of it tomorrow since I have to put the torsion bar back in it. I Hope they fix it considering I only colored the handle, it's not like I did a regrind on the blade.

It's good that you called. They're very nice, and there's a chance they'll help you anyway. Maybe not, but still, worth a shot.

Is the slot causing any problems with the function of the knife?

As for warranty, good luck. I would not warranty something I sold that was physically altered, in any way.

Kershaw has gone above and beyond the norm many times. But I gotta agree with Mike on this. Besides, if its not causing a problem, forgeddaboudit.

Actually I don't think it's a "problem". I'm not sure but I imagine you are talking about the same thing I saw another person talking about. The area near the recess for the pivot screw is so close to an area that is milled for the torsion bar that a piece is actually taken out of the recess hole. I believe mine is the same way. Hasn't caused any kind of problem yet and I don't anticipate it either.
