Echleon differences

What are the differences between the old model and new model Echleons?

As far as I know - only the cutout design around the thumbstud changed: BUT I saw one person comment that the finish on the blade changed - the original (I have two original design echelons) has a nice brushed appearance - beautiful.

Original design with the diagonal grooves around the thumbstud:

Those scalloped edges looked really cool, shame they're gone.

Agreed - that scalloped cutout is what made the Echelon's blade look so different than anything else out there... the handle is a love it or hate it look but the blade is the real deal - it's price-point retail is high for what you get though. no liners. Blems are the way to go for sure.

Didn't realize they changed that. I have the original scalloped version. I like it much better.

Mine is the newer style, the action is very smooth and opens without any problems. The price for a knife from Kershaw made in the USA seemed fair.

The main difference seems to be the scallops by the thumb stud. Some show a sharp taper, like the 3rd and 4th pics on the Kershaw web site. Some are a bit rounded as it tapers, like the 1st and 2nd pics on the same site. And the new ones don't have the taper at all, just the hole, like in 1robinhood's 2nd pic above.

Kershaw's very own Jimmer explains the changes here.
