In another thread, a member mentioned the Ecolites being discontinued. I hadn't read that, so I went to Bucks website, and sure nuff, I couldn't find any listed...

So, did I somehow miss them ? Not sure how I could, but nothing surprises me :D Or is it true ?
Perhaps I missed conversation about this, but I did a search and came up with nothing... If it is true, it seems surprising. I just assumed they were reasonably popular.

Not being found on the website is not a reliable indicator as the full product line is not listed there.
It does however appear to be true that the Ecolites are being discontinued since the are not listed in the 2014 dealer price guide.

It makes me wonder if they stopped making them for 2014 because there are so many models of 110 this year, and maybe they will be back in 2015?

Good thought but the 112's are not listed either.

yeah, I saw that, but one can hope...... :)
Especially since I wanted one in green, but other Bucks are higher up on the want list....
Like completing our set of kitchen cutlery, and the new Marksman, etc etc....

I liked them, I sort of viewed them as a Bucklite 2.0. They were light, and substantial. Too bad.

They had undergone some evolution since their first release. The original models were modified with the addition of pivot washers to later models making opening and closing the blade smoother. The pivot washer also enhanced self-close. It's easy to tell new vs old. New: pivot pin rests on a ss washer. Old: pivot pin rests on the Paperstone handle.

Interesting info... made me look.... :) My red 112 has the washer.
It's funny, when something is available I'm never in a hurry to acquire one. Now that they are discontinued I want them.
I don't have the 110's or green 112 in my collection yet.

I bot some from Joe Houser at one of the OKCA (Oregon Knife Collectors Association) annual meets. Looking at a washered red 112 now: $21. I bot several, 3-4, whatever he had left. I usually am only able to attend the last day of the three day show, Sunday, as I can skip work Sundays if I work at it before and after, and pickings can be slim but then prices have a tendency to fall on the last day.

You know, since the ECO in ecolite means that the Paperstone material is bound with Cashew nuts I wonder if you find yourself on an expedition with Shackleton and things go sideways can you eat your knife, along with your leather belt, leather shoes and leather watch band? :) A survival knife in more ways than one it that were true.

I thought about a counter top of Paperstone. Never seen one in place. I want Lapis color and Lapis Lazuli look. Love the blue and gold.

So true. I think a lot of people are the same way

That's good info. Thanks Steve... I may have to pickup a 112

What if someone has a tree nut allergy? Are they able to hold a paperstone scaled knife? ;)

I wonder how paperstone would work as a gun stock material... ?

This is kinda sad news. Glad I got some of the 112's and will definitely be on the lookout for a few more. These carry really nice and Paperstone is some pretty durable stuff.

I would think it would work fine. It's gotta be stronger than some of the low end plastic stocks they use. Seems like it might be heavy though. Maybe not

Anyone heard a definitive answer from Buck? I really like the "Eco" series. :(

I haven't, but with them no longer being on their website, when they were before, and someone mentioned they were no longer on the dealers price list, sounds like it is more than likely true.

I was very curious about this, so I emailed Joe Houser about it, and another question I had.
He kindly replied today.
Here is the ecolite part:

Hello Chris,
I don’t know all the details but generally speaking, if a knife was discontinued, it was not doing well. I can say that they did not pull the 110/112 ecolites as a temporary measure while the 110 50th anniversary happens. The two events are not related.
