My good friend Bud Nealy wrote me today and I am excerpting a bit he wrote about Ed Chavar and what he has been through of late.

Bud wants everyone to know that Ed intends to continue his knifemaking career despite this unfortunate setback.

"I don't know if you know it or not but Ed Chavar some weeks ago was diagnosed with a very serious form of mouth cancer. He went into the hospital and was operated on last Tuesday 2/19/02. He was on the operating table for 17 hrs., to give you some indication of how serious this was, hopefully they got all of the cancer. Toni and I went to visit him Sunday and was amazed at his rate of recovery. However he has many many months of rehabilitation ahead of him.
Would it possible for you to make mention of this on Blade forums. You don't have to go into details if you don't want to. But it would sure be nice if the guys could send him well wishes. His address is:

Ed Chavar
1830 Richmond Ave.
Bethlehem, PA 18018"

I'm sorry to hear this. He is a great maker and a gentleman. I stopped by shop once and he took time out to talk at length with me - very nice guy.

Do you have his email?

Thanks for noticing, Dave. ;)

Been pretty busy between work (as you can imagine) and taking care of some issues arising from my dad's health.

I may not post as much but I try to keep an eye on things so I don't get too far afield.

Ed,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. A good word to the Lord will be sent for you and your family.

Jeff

If Ed Chavar's not at the Blade Show, Bud Nealy should be able to provide an answer. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to check and report back. Unfortunately, I won't be attending this year, but hope to make it to the Guild Show.

Thanks, I'm sure everone will look forward to your reply.

Blues,

I spoke with Bud Nealy at Blade today. He told me that Ed Chavar is making a "remarkable recovery." He is in the process of finishing his chemotherapy. And, despite his extensive surgery, he has only a slight speech impediment which is improving. I assured him that everyone a Bladeforums was concerned and interested in Ed's wellbeing. Bud told me that he would be sure to pass our good wishes along to Ed.

Many thanks for taking the time out to report to us.

Blues and Wolf:

Thank-you very much for informing us about Ed. He is obviously a well respected member of the knife community. My prayers and thouighs are with him and his family.
