This is a used Fowler Pronghorn I purchased a few years ago. Found it in a town nearby, only 20 minutes drive!

It has been used and sharpened and buffed, but still looks beautiful. Owner told me it had been used on an African hunt, but traded back to Ed for another knife.

This one has an interesting story. I found it at an ABS hammerin'. The man who sold it to me (well-known collector & ABS member, J. Perry) had kept in in his toolbox and used for many years as a "yard knife".
It has been beautifully refurbished, considering condition was rough!

Paul Basch had this one for sale at one of his last Blade Shows, but the sheath had gone missing. Only knife I ever bought from him.
Ed remade a sheath for it shortly after.

By Mr. Fowler, I hope!:p

Thanks for the photos David. I never tire of seeing one of Mr. Fowler's ladies.

Here's the last knife, and best story.

This one was partially made by Ed, and thrown away- used only for an article in Knife Talk. A ranch hand picked it out of the trash and convinced Ed to help him finish it for a Fathers Day gift. He reluctantly helped, as I heard the story. But somehow knife got lost out of his fathers automobile. Then it was found on the road by a guy who went on an oddessy to sell it in a few places before settling with a prominent female MS who brought it to Blade 1998.
And, it was a headache for Ed seeing this knife again. So, I won't show it.. But the story nearly ended when I bought it. Except Ed wrote an article on it, "the knife that wouldn't go away".

It was the only knife of Ed's I could afford, and my first one. I traded a Marble's 5" Ideal and around $350, I think.. She had to call the man who owned it (Lance) for negotiating its sale.

I never found out if the original man who made the knife was truly contacted about the lost knife, but I was told he had been and didn't care to have it back.

Oh, and Ed gave me $50 to help buy it so he wouldn't have to see it again. (So, I might owe him money if he sees this!) :)

Thanks Lorien. You're correct about the cleanups. :) ..i wouldn't dare post these if not.

I almost went in a different direction with this thread since "used" knives was my intent.. maybe some people here can post photos of their favorite used condition knives.

Here's a curvacious Bowie that's been around the block a few times:

What a thorn in Ed's side you must be, David. :p :D
Great blades, Congrats !

Actually I never understood what's up with Fowler's knives : strange shape, strange proportions of handle vs blade... Would you mind explaining to a poor french collector why they are so hot ?

I can explain it. The handles are sized so that they're actually usable and shaped so that they're actually comfortable. These are designed as working knives and are the most comfortable I've ever used. By far.

In my opinion, an awful lot of custom knives are built with handles that are much too small to be of any use.

Thanks Pete. I remember reading a post you made several years ago- one of the best testimonials I've ever read. Do you remember, about a lost Bowie?

Here are a couple more photos from same group. Jon, I have several more.. can post later.
Doug, I do worry :) I might be like a bad wart that won't go away!
I plan to just posts photos more often, hopefully avoid opening the cans of worms.

There is much to appreciate in these knives.

Not sure why, but many of your photos are unavailable David.

I don't own any of Ed's knives, but handled some at Blade. I too was impressed, and there was a selection that seemed to include one perfect for just about any cutting task. There was a young fellow at Ed's table that was VERY knowledgeable about the knives and enthusiastic about showing their uses. It was a pleasure handling Ed's knives and chatting with him and his associate.
