I'm not sure when it first came out, but Larry ordered a DVD and Ed's 2nd book last week and I've had a chance to watch it. I thought it was good! Sort of a story line to it, showing Ed riding in the "high" country on his horse with his dogs. Then into the shop for knifemaking, from a 3" ball bearing of 52100, to a finished knife. No secrets, he shows everything, and uses three different power hammers along the way. He shows his methods of forging, heat treating, tempering, guard and handle finishing. Then later a 90 degree bend, (which passes by the way). Anyway, I only know Ed through the forums, not connected in any way, but I do reccommend this DVD. It's entertaining, put together well, easy to watch and listen to. At the end, he's back on his horse, and off into the sunset. I really enjoyed it. His "Knife Talk" book was good also, vintage Fowler, lots of stories and good info.

I agree. Great video. I wish more makers were doing similar things. IOW, showing how they make one of their signature pieces, start to finish.

Yep, makes for good information. Now that the two Ed's (Caffredy and Fowler) have done one, how about Kevin, and Burce, and, and, and.......
Can you tell I'm a info junkie? Only one worse then me I think is Fitzo <G>

Thanks for the kind words about my video. It was made a long time ago and we have learned a lot since then. It looks like there will be another video in the future, maybe two of discs will be needed to cover all the new stuff. The more we learn, the easier it is to push steel to the limit. Takes time to develop high level endurance performance blades but well worth it.

I have both books and the DVD, and I wouldn't be without them in my shop...Sometimes I stop working and reread parts of the books, just to make sure I'm still following the correct proceedures....Thanks Ed!!! :D
