Anybody knows/has any pics of Ed Fowler's rambulei sheeps ? I know there was one post that has pics, but I cannot seem to find it.

Here is a picture of a Rambouillet sheep. It is not one of Ed's, but I hope it will do.

Keith; That is one fabulous, georgious, supreme top of the line buck. He would be on top in any competition! WOW!! Who raised him? It looks like he is fit up for a show, nice job. For knife makers who want to use horn, the buck is a young one and his horns need to grow another 5 years or more for great knife handles. It is hard to judge horns from the photo, but I would guess when he mature4s and more, the top will be thick, the curl is not too tight and the inside of the curl looks flat. He would make a great herd sire and if you select great ewes to go with him you could be in the handle market in ten years or so. You would also be raising some high yield lambs. It sometimes happens that great horns do not need great bodies, That buck will probably top out at about 300 pounds or more, if you can find great horns on 200 pound rams you can grow them a little cheaper.

I agree with Ed. That is one gorgeous sheep (or goat). Ed, when you take the horns, does it mean you kill the sheep ? Or is it possible to detach the horn without killing the sheep ?

I am sheep/goat illiterate.

It is possible to dehorn a mature buck sheep but it takes a lot of learning and some good hands to get the job done and not kill the buck or folks working with them. I have seen human legs, arms, hip, ribbs broken, human teeth knocked out, one eye lost, one man knocked cold as a wedge and heard of one killed working range bucks. These were all experienced folks. It is best for novices to butcher the aged buck and enjoy the meat, you can make some great jerky. I would recommend a Vet do the dehorning if you are so inclined, and you can find a Vet to do it.

That is the picture of a champion Ram from the Heart's Ease Farm, Lapeer, MI. It is used as the feature picture on the web site of the American Rambouillet Breeders Association.

Hehe, Ed tell them about the time you had a truckload of horns still attached to the sheep outside the grocery store:D
You know, the tomato sauce story.

Thanks a lot for the info all. Can't imagine something that cute can kill a man...
