Those of us who have been around these parts for a while and who know anything about Ed Schott know that the year 2000 was not kind to Ed, to put it mildly.

Consider this a short note to let you know that Ed is fightin' his way back and is putting some knives out again.

Today I received this little neck knife from Ed:

View

This is a 6.5" OAL neck knife of CPM-3V (my first in this material) featuring a "zero ground" blade approximately 3 1/8" long. The blade is made of 3/16" stock.

This is a "v" ground blade, not a chisel grind.

The handle is black same (ray skin) covered with a nylon cord wrap. Though relatively small, the handle affords a surprisingly secure grip.

The sheath is kydex and holds the knife very securely.

I haven't had much chance to play with this knife yet as it just came, but it was reasonably sharp out of the box. A little stropping made it moreso.

Fit and finish is not quite up to the work of makers who are known for this style but in fairness to Ed, this was (I believe) his first knife of this type and considering what has been going on with him, I'm impressed that he could keep his mind on making knives at all.

Another point...This knife is very reasonably priced. Well under the price of similar knives by better known makers, so you might want to contact Ed to find out what the current going rate is.

In other words, it's a bargain.

For those of you looking for a tough, practical hideout or backup utility piece that you don't have to be afraid to use, this knife fits the bill perfectly.

Ed is a great guy and I wish him well in the future. I am looking forward to getting a package from him myself. I'm sending some money his way and he is sending me some of that 3V steel, and I will make a few toys myself. Dont know if they will end up being anything someone would pay for, but I am gonna have fun!

C'mon, Elliott! Does this neck knife thing never ends?
Just kidding. That's a nice little blade in a material I am very curious about.
Best regards! happy new year!

Looks quite functional. Blues, what is that hole near the sheaths top for? A swivel belt loop attachment?

The hole was added (at my request) so I could use the sheath IWB ("inside the waistband" to the uninitiated) if desired. In that instance I'd just attach a loop with a chicago screw a la Bud Nealy.

Good knife by Ed, Elliot. Do you know if Ed is willing to do variations on this knife style?

Harry,

I think Ed will try to work with your ideas to the best of his abilities.

Check his website, specifically in the section about Ed himself. It shows a very open mind regarding his views on knifemaking.
