Hi Guys! Sorry I've been offline. I'm still here though. Had a bit of a disagreement with a deer back in Nov. Little bastage knocked me right off my bike, tasty though....;-)
I'm exceedingly lucky. Walked away with a dislocated left pinky and sprained right wrist, assorted bruises. Bike performed admirably. Continued on without me for about 100 yrds until it got tired and found a nice soft muddy ditch to lie down in. Damaged just enough for the ins co to total, but not enough to really hurt it. Drove it home a month later after my wrist healed up some. So now i've got a "Rat BMW". Cosmetically challenged, but undaunted. I'm thinking of naming it "The Deerslayer"...
Wrist is still a little tweaky, but I've hammered with it and no serious pain. Just finished my first knife since the accident. I'll post a pic in a bit. Working on a small damascus EDC for myself now. Last of my last years damascus. Going to try and do some cable this weekend. Wish me luck....
In other news, this summer I picked up a sweet little pneumatic power hammer. Sold off one of my old bikes to pay for it, just about an even deal. Guy on Long Island wanted the bike. Turns out he lived 15 min away from the guy with the hammer. Delivered it right to my house. Just before he arrived, a low boy with a bobcat/ forklift showed up next door. When he was done there, he came over and moved the hammer over to my forge. Freaking amazing sequence of events... I haven't been able to use it yet though cause I haven't got a compressor big enough to run it. My pancake is good for about 1 1/2 hits. If I can pry some of the tax money away from the house (and wife), i'm going to try and pick one up on craigslist. I'm thinking about an 80 gal should do it.
Sam: Thanks for asking about me. Are you back in this neck of the woods? I'd love to get together some weekend and swing some hammers.
Decker: Have you heard anything form J recently? I've tried to get in touch a few times over the last two years, but no luck. He's a busy guy. If you see him let him know I'd like to catch up.
Mat: I was looking forward to seeing you at Ashokan this past year, but couldn't swing the money. I'll be there next year though.
Page: Still bummed that didn't work out. I was really looking forward to hammering with you. I did get to play with coal at Twilight though. Helped Jane Sibley do a traditional Norse metalsmithing clan. Baccus was there with much mead and Glen brought his forge as well. We had twelve people an everybody forged something. I forged my first spear. Very cool.
So, I'll dig around in my phone for that one I just finished and get it up here, and I'll try not to be such a stranger! Thanks for rattling my cage ;-)
