edc 154cm problem

I recieved my edc last week & have been opening/closing it a lot to get used to the firm framelock, which is stronger than my liner locking knives. Lockup was rock solid, no play side-to-side or front to back when open, have only cut a few envelopes open so far, but now the blade "rattles" when you shake it & if you wiggle the blade front-to-back there is noticable blade play.

Calumus will take it back to repair, but I wonder if there is anything I can do as I don't want to pay to ship it, as I just paid to have it shipped to me a week ago.

Will adjusting either the pivot or the stop screw help this or do I need to just send it in?

Lastly, if they need to replace it, doesn't onestopknife shop have them all with the 154cm?

Sorry to be so long winded.

If the screw is loose, the blade will definitely show play. Also, if the rubber o-ring or one of the teflon washers is missing, there will be blade play.

It sounds to me like the screw just worked itself loose.

I would try adjusting the pivot screw. I don't think this will void any warranty. Back it out. Clean the threads and apply a little blue Loc=Tite. I've done this many times on various knives with good results. You might want to check the tightness of all the screws as well.

IMHO anyone owning pocket knives should own a set of small Torx drivers.

Agree completely! Before you ship it out, tighten the screws yourself to see if this helps matters any. Sounds to me, as Buzzbait said, the screw just worked itself loose. The thing about torx drivers, MOST DEFINATELY!

Even better, doesn't the EDC pivot screw use an allen head? Not everybody has tiny Torx screwdrivers, but lots of places carry allen head screwdrivers.

I took your suggestions & was able to tighten the pivot screw which of coarse made it a little tighter opening & now can not shake it to make it rattle, but if I hold the blade & wiggle it back & forth, it still has blade play, again NOT side-to-side, but front-to-back,

I did not have the size needed to adjust the stop pin, don't know yet if tightening this will bring it closer to bladestop to reduce gap between blade & stop pin.

I will need to get to hardware store to find the right size wrench.

Thanks for all the help !!!

I ran into the same problem with my 154cm EDC.

I simply loosened and then retightened the pivot. I am seriously considering putting Locktite on the pivot instead of relying on the rubber O ring.

I guess I'm missing something, but I don't see how tightening the pivot screw would fix front-to-back wobble, it WOULD fix side-to-side wobble, but as I said I need to fix the gap between the open blade & the stop pin & the lockbar.

Again, I DO appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks again.

I tried both just tightening the pivot screw as well removing the bolt & applying lock-tite & tightening back down.

this just makes for a slower opening blade, taking more effort to open & close, but did nothing to close the gap between the blade & the lockbar & the blade stop bar.

I don't yet have the smaller allen wrench to tighten the stop bar, will try that next.

Thank you all again for the continued help & support, especially for the generous offer by Jim Smyth who emailed me an offer to help if nessesary.

Thanks again.

Of course!! I hear nothing but good...so I order one. Now this!!

I'm confident that Camillus will make things right if there are problems.

I got my EDC 154cm knife back the other day from Camillus & wanted to let everyone know it is perfect.

smooth opening & closing with ZERO play when open now.

A special thanks to Will Fennell of Camillus for the GREAT customer service.

Hay! Will, rubber "O" rings?? A. G.

AG,
the rubber-O-Ring is a trick part that helps keep the pivot adjustment screw from bacjing out on its own.

It prevents a factory from using loctite on the pivot screw, so the customer can adjust, yet the screw stays put.

Uncleknife: Glad this worked out so well for you.

Enjoy the kinfe!
