The question does up once in a while and Nathan's response has been something to the effect of, "no immediate plans" or "at some future point". I think that the EDC pattern and its iterations are a good/great cash-cow for CPK but that's not what exactly floats Nathan's boat. Personally speaking, the EDC is not in the top 3 of my fave CPKs, but that's just me; I'd like to see a slightly bigger fixed blade than the EDC from CPK next. Again my own personal preference which has nothing to with others' reality or practical applications! Maybe the DEK1 will fill that gap for folks like me.
Regarding what looks like hollow-grind, there were some EDC2s and very few EDC3 which Nathan had done with a "satin finish" (220 grit hand rubbed) which maybe giving you that impression. Nathan does stuff like that once a while in between larger productions, maybe to break the cycle of monotony to get things more interesting but I'm not quite sure.
The EDC2s have a S grind hand applied after machining. It is more apparent in the satin finished Desert Ironwood run. It could also be one of the One Off Fun Friday sales, I don’t remember if any of those were hollow grind. I’m personally looking forward to the next version of the EDC pattern. I love those little bastards, carry one in my pocket every day!

As you can see, I’m a little obsessed with the EDC pattern.
