I have recently decided to purchace an EDC, and I would like to know if there are any functional differences between the standard version and the 125th Anniversary such as size or quality of materials used. I was also disappointed that I could only find the 154CM version in "combo edge", because I don't really like serrations. Does it also come in plain edge? Thanks for any assistance you can give.

First, no there is no functional difference between the two. Second, the standard version blade material is 420HC whereas the 125th is 154CM (with Black Titanium Coating). Nope, no difference in size. If you consider black ti coating a higher quality then yes it is a higher quality knife. Lastly, the 154CM version does come in plain as well as serrated. Hope this helps somewhat.:)

The Anniversary special does come in plain edge. The standard uncoated 154 comes in both flavors - serrated and plain edge. You can find the plain silver 154cm blades for around $60.00 new if you look hard on the web. Anniversary models prices range from $90 on up. Everything is the same size and materials except for the coating, and the gold anodized screws and clips.

Great knife. I highly recommend them. I have one anniversary model for daily carry, the black coating is scratched to heck now, but the gold pocket clip is holding up great and looks better for dress clothes at work. I also have three silver 154cm plain edge for my family vehicles emergency knife. I also have one serrated for the tool box. Lets see, that's five of them, and did I mention that even with 154cm steel the price was right.

I prefer the 154cm blades, however, many forumites like the regular steel and they are even cheaper.

My two cents worth,

Wade

Is the 154 CM noticably better for daily use? I know it has better edge holding properties and all that, but if I were to secretly switch your 154CM version for a 420HC would you be able to tell the differance?

IMHO it's the same knife either way but the edgeholding of 154cm is worth the extra $15,the 154cm EDC for $60-65 has to be one of the great knife values of all time.

The EDC's are also available in D2 from A.G. Russell. I just got 2 of these and they are what my Grandfather would have called "Dandy". I agree with Brent's comment that these are a real value. Very solid and the right size for me for an EDC knife. I would spend a the few extra dollars for either 154 or D2. I would really like to get one in Talonite myself...maybe in the future.

Thanks for all the help. It definately sounds like the 154CM is worth the modest price increase. I have never really like coatings and such, so the anniversary is out. Still, it does look stunning. I checked out the A.G. Russell website and couldn't find any D2 models. Is there anyplace else that would carry them?

The A. G. Russell exclusive D2 EDC's are extremely nice & one of the best values going - got 2 on Tuesday and they are sweet - carry great in pocket, fit & finish is excellent and sharp!!! also have a 154CM Anniversary model which is nicer looking that also is a great user. The D2 at $70 from AG now has to be a bargain - price will go up to retail soon. Definately worth every penny(have a DDR/Simonich Talonite EDC for comparison purposes) - doesn't compare to the custom but for the price it can't be beat as a user/beater - Camillus seems to have gotten the heat treat right based on my usage so far. Kudos to Camillus for doing the blade in D2 and getting it right and thanks to AG for asking for it in D2 to make a good knife that much better.

Fishbulb, the D2 version is only available to Collector's Club members now - at their site go to the Coll. Club area & you can join & get the knife - membership is worth the minimal fee because you get first chance at their specials & other knives at reduced prices. Good Luck!

I don't know about D2, I'm around the water a lot and 154CM seems like the best balance of performance and corrosion resistance. Does anybody have any experience with a company called "C.R. Specialties"? Their website is www.crknives.com. They seeem to have great prices on camillus products and I was wondering about their service/reliability.

And, of course, there is the EDC in TALONITE...now yu be havin a really super cutter thingey!!! A-YUK, A-Yuk, A-Yuk!!!
