Hey all. Been lurking around for a while learning about knives for a while and all of the info I have gotten has been very good and helped me in a lot of my knife purchases but now I have a question.

My uncle is looking for an AO knife that he can carry in his back pocket by his wallet. Size isn't too big of an issue but it obviously cant be overly large. Also he doesn't mind whether or not it is serrated or plain edged. Another thing he mentioned is he doesn't want it to ride too high out of the pocket. I've looked at a few Gerbers that he has shown me but I just get a lot of bad info about those knives when I look them up so I try to avoid them.

The last thing he told me was he didn't particularly want to spend over $50 dollars.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

I'd recommend a SOG Trident. I have the digi camo one and really do like it. It's light and completely low riding clip. You can message a few ebay sellers and see if they are willing to sell one cheaper. Private message me if you want to know the seller I got mine from.

kershaw leek. it is small, light, very thin, and is decent steel. it will do most everything general purpose, and is available blemished. kershawguy has a CPM-D2 leek blemished for 38 bucks, s30v and G10 version for 45 bucks, and the tanto combo edge s30v leek for 45.

a blemished knife is a knife that has a cosmetic or slight mechanical defect. my blemished ZT 0200 had a spot of coating that was gone, dropping the price 45 bucks off a 130 dollar knife. my spec bump was a bit hard to close sometimes, something relatively easy to fix, and i was able to get a discontinued, $200 msrp knife for $60. blems are a great thing, and, if it is a user, then it does not matter.

I have a leek and showed it to him but it has a decently high rise out of the pocket and he didnt like it for back pocket carry. I did look at the SOG knives but have heard of people having issues with blade play.

How is your eneyman?

The leek would work as a knife that you lock and drop in your pocket. if he does not like that one, then look at the blur. it is pretty thin for it's size. the ZT 0350 could be too chunky, but is worth a look.

i may give the blur another look. personally i love the knife and want to own one but i hear people talk about having to replace the AO system a lot. he did like it when he saw it though so i will definitely keep it in mind.

any other suggestions?

The AO system is extremely simple to replace. send kershaw an e-mail, and they will send you a new torsion bar. i have actually found that the blur works well as a manual knife if this happens, but that is only a temporary measure.

No one does A/O as well as Kershaw. The composite blade leek is really thin and smooth, so it's easy to carry in your pockets. It's also a great value considering the steel, due to the composite blade design.
