I need a good edc bag, good looking, lots of room and pouches, somewhat water resistant/ and or proof. Oh and around $50. Ideas?

Its more than 50.00 though. Remember you get what you pay for. If you want durability save your money and buy a reputable bag.

You might check out the Red Rock stuff at Chestnut Ridge. It's pretty good for the price. I have a couple of them and they have served me well for EDC.

I use Maxpedition bags. They have tons of compartments and come in all sorts of styles. I have 2 sling packs and a backpack and I like them all.

My problem with the Maxpedition bags is, they scream "tactical". Nothing says "I have a gun" or "look how tactical I am" like a bag with molle loops. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have some of their stuff but it isn't low key enough for me.

I've looked at some very nice camera bags with the intention of using them as EDC bags but that begs the question, do I want a bag on the front seat of my car that says Canon or Nikon when I run in to pay for my gas.

My current EDC is a Maratac Extreme Bail Out Bag in coyote and I've been stopped at the airport and had my bag randomly checked a couple times. I'm sure it was because I had the tactical bag and everyone else had the typical laptop bag by Wenger or Targus. I stood out as "that guy that thinks he's all tactical and stuff".

I'm ordering a LowePro Nova 160 AW tomorrow for EDC minus the laptop (not traveling nearly as much and rarely transport the laptop anymore). It comes with the rain cover that encases the whole thing and Lowepro's lifetime warranty and it's about $10 under your maximum price. I wish it had the water bottle pocket big enough to hold a full size Nalgene like the Versipack K.I.S.S. but it should hold my 25oz CamebBak without a problem. At worst I use a caribiner to attach a bottle.

It doesn't look tactical. It doesn't look like a man purse and it doesn't look too much like a high-end camera bag. It also has the pocket on the back for concealed carry of a small firearm if one chooses. None of the Canon branded bags had this feature.

Best of luck in your search. The perfect bag is out there somewhere. Just like the perfect knife is. You'll just have to go through a couple dozen before you find it.

My bug out bag is an Eberlestock, my EDC bag is a North Face, really good quality, lots of pouches & space. Over $50 though. Buy a good bag, it'll cost more than $50 but it will last a lot longer than a cheap one.

There are a lot of choices out there, so "Buyer Beware". I go for the "gray man" look, so if I need a bag I genearrly will go to Walmart or Target to find it. I have an older daypack/computer bag I bought at Walmart for about $30 three years ago that has been with me everywhere and does scream "Tommy Tactical". You can mod the insides with some velcro and/or elastic straps, or organize the interior with small, inexpensive pouches (see a pattern here?) and you're set.

I think you highlight a really good point. The last thing I want when I'm carrying is a "tactical" looking bag.

If I were to put myself in the mindframe of a wingnut intent on taking out a lot of people, the first target I would likely focus on would be the person wearing all the tactical schwag.

And while we're on the subject, I'm also curious to find a low-key, non-tactical bag that is quality, well-made and provides for convenient carry, without advertising it.

Thats generally true, but my Maxpedition MPB doesn't. It makes me look like an accountant or an IT guy, and I got it for that reason. It also has more usable space, in my view anyway, than the over-the-shoulder style bags. Plus, because I like to fly under the radar, I stay away velcro skull patches, Sh*t Magnet patches, hanks of paracord, carabiners and all of that kind of bling thats generally pretty useless but just attracts attention. People generally, and cops particularly, ignore this bag, which is the way I like it.

CJZ, this bag is closer to $100 than $50, but I was just making the point that there are alternatives to attention-grabbing EDC bags. Rock on.
