EDC blade, deep carry clip

My SOG Aegis is nearing the end of its useful life, and I am wanting to try something new. There was always a bit of blade play regardless of adjusting the pivot, but now it has deteriorated to the point where it rattles when shaken vigorously. It seems like this is a somewhat common problem among SOGs, so I am wanting to go with another manufacturer this time.

Requirements
Blade: 3" - 4", AUS8 or better steel, not serrated, not tanto
Deployment: Manual or assisted, thumb stud or hole. Just has to be relatively fast and 1 handed.
Lockup must be strong with no blade play
Pocket clip: must carry deep! The knife cannot be visible. This is my most important issue, and having looked around for a while, it seems like SOG has the best clips :(
Lighter is better
Under $200
Cheaper is better, but willing to pay for quality.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

DPX Hest /F 2.0

D2 steel, a bit over a 3" blade, Ti frame lock and a deep carry clip. Plus a glass breaker and a few other features including a wave style opener. Around $175 or less.

Caly 3.5 is what I'm looking at in that price range and it seems to fit the specs

The Sage 1 & 2 are very close to being unseeable with their wire clips. Your other option is to pick a few you like and see what kind of aftermarket clips you can find.

As far as Spyderco goes, I see the Sage, Manix 2, and Caly with the deep carry wire clip. I really like the Caly with the carbon fiber, but have zero experience with ZDP-189 steel. Definitely considering all of those options!

Any tips on finding aftermarket clips? I like the Cold Steel Triad Locks (Espada, Voyager, Recon), but I haven't seen any clips for them.

Screw the deep carry and wear that knife proud!!!

But in all seriousness, spyderco's wire clip are the best low riding, low profile clips around. Also, zt has recently changed their clip design on the 0550 to the same low riding clip as the 0560, which by most accounts is a very good clip.

Really though, I have come to appreciate non low rider clips. They just make for a much easier time drawing the knife from your pocket, and I guess I just don't care who knows I have a knife.

Buck Vantage series maybe. Several different steels, handles, etc.

Not much deeper carry than with that clip that I know of, attaches to butt rather than side.

whats the deal with not seeing the knife? who's freaking out?

i have to go with the sage or caly series.

kershaw cryo. the clip is perferct for your needs. but i'm not sure if 8cr13mov is at par or better than aus8. very solid lock up for an assisted knife. only cost $32

Find a knife you like and spend $30 - $40 on a custom clips from STR (on the forum in the Knifemakers section)
http://strsbackyardknifeworks.blogspot.com

As long as the knife is drilled and tapped, STR can make you a superb deep carry clip that makes the knive invisible. This way you are NOT restricted to SOGs or particular brands as long as there is enough spacing between the clip holes. Anything with a wide 3 hole style like Emerson and Benchmade is fine.

So if you wanted a Spydero Paramilitary 2 with a deep carry... STR is your man.
I got a Gerber Applegate Fairbairn (full size model with 5.5" handle!) done and it rocks!!

or get a custom deep carry clip for a knife of your choice. Here's one on my JYDII which sits even lower than my Knockout:

Buck Vantages, DPX Hest 2.0 and if you want something different but great quality try a Fantoni Hide folder;)

Agreed. Love my Marine OD green 845 Vantage! Tough and inexpensive

Another vote for aftermarket clips..... Get what you want and then get a custom clip. If you want one already with a low clip the Hest is a great choice though.

I second that motion. There is no deeper carry that I know of (using a clip).

Some great recommendations here guys, you've given me a lot to think about.

I am in college, and "anything that could be construed as a weapon" is prohibited. It's not illegal, just against the campus rules. If the rules were more reasonable, I might consider following them. But since pretty much anything (or anyone!) could be construed as a weapon, I am just going to carry whatever I think I can get away with. Have been carrying the SOG Aegis for years, never had any trouble :D
