Your next knife you imagine can do anything, anything all your other knifes cant handle and all that...Aint that what people say, the search for the "perfect" blade and after you got it, you find another one, and buy that thinking that would be the "perfect" blade.... Sick people, sick we knife addicts are  :D So after another round of buying, handling and using i have now come to the point where i know what i would like in my edc blades..

First the steel:
I have found out that 154CM/VG10/ATS-34 are good enough for my use, so i would like it from there and up. AUS8(A), 8CR13MOV and variations of that just dont do it for me.

Blade length:
The perfect blade length for my edc use are between 2,8" and 3,5".

Blade opening:
I like it one handed deployment, preferably the round hole deployment that spyderco and benchmade uses.

Overall knife looks:
I like G10, its kind of the perfect textured handle material, but it looks kind of tactical on most knifes, its not a must but i want it to look kind of not so intimidating to other people. Another thing i really like about the spyderco knifes is the 50, 50 choil they use on some of their knifes or if i have the option.

Price:
So between 50 and 120 dollars.

Last:
I have looked long and hard at the Spyderco Manix 2, i like everything about it the ergonomics, 50 50 choil and all that, but it looks a little bit to tactical i think so if i not get convinced to do othervise i think i will buy the manix 2. I dont want the Para Military 2 that is WAY to tactical.

And a last question, how is the quality of the japanese and taiwan made spyderco knifes compared to the american made if they use the same materials??

Last question first. I have three of the Taichung, Tawain made Spyderco knives, the PPT, Vallotton Sub-Hilt, and the Gayle Bradley. All three have as good a fit/finish as my custom folders have. I know that sounds like overkill, but it is a fact, at least it is my opinion.

For the perfect edc, you might want to give the Benchmade large Bone Collector folder a look. An Axis Lock, with D2 blade steel, choice of black G-10, black/green G-10, or walnut wood for the scales. This is one solid folder at 5.6 ounces, and fits my large hand really well. I think this is one of those "under the radar" knives that get produced but for some reason are overshadowed by other knives.

I do think that the large Bone Collector is pretty thick @ 0.735" handle thickness, although it's sturdy as a bull moose. I would prefer a thinner knife to go into my Levis. Taiwan-made Spydies are excellent quality. I have several BenchMade folders and love 'em, BTW.

Here is the Manix2 on top of the Para2. Look how wide the blade is on the Manix compared to the Para2. I think the Manix is much more imposing. The Para2 has blade edge of 3.0" and 0.450" thickness.

Here is the Manix2 with a serrated-edge Caly3. (A Caly3.5 is also available) The Caly3 has an edge of 2.6" long; thickness is 0.365". Manix2 is 2.8" blade "sharp" length; thickness is 0.460".
