hello
i am new to busse knives and looking for a EDC knife which has a high blade which makes it handy for general food preperation when camping, when being at work. i think a high blade is more important than a thin one for food preparation. the best pizza cutter i used is a WSK which is basicly a Tracker inspired semi custom (http://www.damage-network.de/forum/attachements/Upload/wsk/3.jpg) - not a good kitchen knive but a excellent pizza cutter :D
a ASH-1 would be perfect because of the height of the blade. but it is way to heavy to be a EDC the same for the skinny ASH-1. the ASH-1 might be a litte to big too as i want to carry the knive IWB neverless i am a tall guy who can carry large knives IWB as EDC - such a shame that the ASH-1 is that heavy a ASH-1 1-1.5" shorter would be ideal unfortunally my budget is limited which disables custom shop busses for me.
i hope you could recommend me a busse knife which does fit my requests.

best regards

I'm thinking a SAR5 would be pretty ideal for what you're looking for. There's one for sale with a picture HERE

i thought based on the pictures i saw that the SAR5 would do better for utility tasks than kitchen usage as the blade is only 1" high. as the blade is that small, the hand should touch the cutting board first and thus the blade is only partly to action. that is a problem when cutting bigger things like pizza.
i hope i expressed clear enough what i mean. if it is not understandable please let me know.

best regards

If the SAR5 is not what you are looking for, and although I can see you wanting a wider blade, the lack of a protruding talon hole/finger guard would make it desirable to me for this type of duty... The full blade will be serviceable on a cutting board without this protruding guard getting in the way.

...I would say take a look at a CG BATAC. It has a slightly wider blade at 1-5/8" from edge to spine, it is lighter than even the skinny ASH-1, versitile, and has a thin profile when worn in a sheath.

Yep, the BATAC, or the Swamp Rat Howling Rat, any version.

Both would be easy to EDC, I have.

ASH, or SH size, not so easy. Not for 12+ hrs anyway.

The ASH is the shortest blade I can think of with a really "high" blade. Once you get under that 6.5" length, you're in the territory of blades that aren't as wide.

The BATAC, as mentioned, would be a good compromise. You don't give up too much width of blade, and you're down in the 5" range, which makes it more of an EDC.

You might have to go all the way back to a SHBA or original "Badger" to find what you want. Expect to look long and pay a premium when you find it--especially one in INFI as many of the SHBAs were A2.

The Howling Rat (Res C) handle, or the later Howling Rat Little Mischief might be more what you're seeking. Though it is SR-101 and not INFI, it would be easier to find, and it would be a lot cheaper. See the HRLM in middle of pic.

The HRLM would probably be the cheapest way to go and the best to see about that Howler/BA shape and size.
