I got this knife yesterday and at first thought it was it was beefy and heavy and stuff butt after playing with a while I have grown to love it. I have it opening lot better and can accually flip it a out with one flick of the thumb. And this one is 2014 and have the standoffs I like that also. Wish it was a little lighter but the weight fits this knife good I thought about milling out the liners but would void warranty this will be my EDC from here on. Thanks Emerson

Personally I wouldn't mill the liners, instead send it off to get some thinner carbon fiber scales put on it and it will drop the weight around the same amount and if it needs warranty work put the stock scales on.

You have a great knife.
Mill those liners. I had some 7's that were milled but like a dink, I sold them.

The mini CQC-7 is a great knife. I had one before and really regret selling it.

I'm about to order a mini '7A waveless to wear when I travel.

CF scales really don't weigh less than G10, both are just thin sheets (of fiberglass or carbon fiber) slathered in epoxy.

Good point about not modifying stock parts to protect the warranty.

I've had a CQC7 mini for about 3 years now. The quality is phenomenal and it's a great knife. The weight and corners do make it print in dress pants. When that's a concern, I'll carry something else, but I still carry it frequently.

Enjoy!

The Mini CQC-7b is my current EDC for work. It was perfect right out of the box. I try not to conform to public opinion, but I had one of my employees give me the look when I used a Journeyman. The Mini is small enough that I don't think she would give it a second look. Mine is black, and draws even less attention. My line of work allows me to wear jeans, and the thickness of the knife is not a problem. Weight has never bothered me either. IMO the Mini 7 is nearly perfect for EDC. A large enough handle to hold, and a large enough blade to use.

My experience with the mini-7A so far is exactly the same. The weight, blade length, and handle are perfect for a smaller but stout user that can do a lot of things. I had her in dress pants today at church. Tomorrow she'll be in cargo pants for work around the house. I'm also looking forward to taking this one back to the warehouse with me to see how she performs there.

Is the handle thinner than the standard CQC7? I found my cqc7v handle a bit thick and blocky in the pocket compared to other Emerson models.

Very slightly thinner... and I mean ver-r-r-y slightly. It's "shorter" more than it is "thinner". But the overall feel for this knife is very comfortable. I really like the amount of grip I can get on this handle for stronger cuts. When I'm at work and I have to carve pieces of Styrofoam into different shapes for shipping electronic gizmos, the handle on the 7 series is great. I've tried that with a couple of thinner framelocks and I've ended up jamming the lockbar farther over than normal and having trouble manipulating the thinner handle.

The 7s are kinda blocky, but that's what I like about them. For the kinds of work I do with a knife, I need a Jeep, not a BMW.

Thanks for the report. That's kinda my point of view with the CQC7. They have their own feel and a good size handle to do alot of work with.

aside from just a couple, 3" or less blades are something I seem to be lacking, so I went ahead and ordered a mini-7A this morning from Emerson. I'm rather fond of my 7A, so it was an easy choice (if the wife asks why I needed another Emerson, I'm blaming it on dalefuller's pictures :D).... and the wait begins lol

Ive been carrying my Mini 7 for a week now and i love it. I have the Kryptek handle model and i spend all day looking for things that need cut!

I carry my mini7 where the legal limit is 3" or when I'm wearing a suit. I prefer the regular 7 because the mini is a tad too small. The handle is awesome but the blade is just too small. They should have named it the micro cqc-7. If legality is not an issue, I would not recommend the mini7 for an edc. People who are thinking of getting a mini7 should physically look at one first, photos are very deceiving.
