I am needing to replace my Gregory daypack since it has been missplaced... I have lookedat a bunch in my locaql market and canKt find anything with a long enough torso. I'm 6'2" with a long torso. I want something a little over 1000cu that I can throw in the car but also use on dayhikes. I have looked at the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon online but can't find one nearby to try out. I don'treally need a bladder compartment. but would like something that I can add bags too if needed. Anysuggestions?

I have a Camelback Tri zip and like it a lot, a little small in my opinion, but I have some pouches on order for more room. It does come with a bladder though, but the bladder compartment is fairly large so you can take out the bladder easily and use it for storage.

I'm 6 foot ish, a hair less, and I think it fits fairly well. It also is fully adjustable so you can fit it to what is most comfortable for you.

I got it at the Indy 1500 for $100 so price wise they're not bad.

I'm really liking my Maxped Condor II, its big enough to hold alot of stuff, but with the compression straps, it collapses down for an EDC bag. Not sure who stocks Maxped around here, my brother is looking also. Good luck, brother.

I have a maxpedition falcon II which I like, but sometimes I wish I would have gone to the condor for a bit extra room. A neat thing that Rick taught me was to shove in a little piece of foam padding in the bladder compartment to kneel down in comfort. I also sometimes fold in a casualty blanket/thick emergency blanket in that compartment. So its kind of handy even when you don't use the bladder.

I'm not sure of the falcon II is anything special for a long torso, but it is a decent little pack with lots of pockets for organization. That compartmentalization can be awesome at times and a PITA at other times. Depends if you are an organization freak or not.

Also, don't start attaching too much external gear to the molle. The pack is good when its about 3/4 full after that the suspension and lack of frame makes it uncomfortable. I used mine for a 2 day hiking trip this summer. It worked, but the next time I do the same thing, I will upsize to a bigger internal frame pack. Here was my pack fully loaded with tarp and hammock and other gear. As I said, it was doable but over-extending the capacity of the bag.

I use a Maxpedition Falcon II, I like it!. If you have a retailer near you that sells Maxpedition, go and look at their packs before you decide. I use my Falcon II for my BOB and my 2 day hiking pack.

the small packs made by Source out of Israel, if you can find a distributor.

I really like the Falcon, Camelback, and even the ATS for the price. I have a large pack so anything over a day is handled by that. The Camelback seems to be a great value.

For EDC I settled on a 45ltr pack, I can carry spare clothes (either a sweat shirt in the winter or a Gor-Tex jacket in the summer), food and drink, a small bag of handy things such as a FAK, some tools etc... and I still have loads of room for other stuff (going to the supermarket and loading it with tins of tomatoes and bags of rice!).

Anything less than 30ltrs is honestly too small for my EDC needs, if I owned a car then maybe it would be different?

You EDC a backpack? In college? I can't imagine that in any other environment. Maybe a park ranger? Every day carry?

Does it need to be "gray"?

Nemoaz, not sure I know what you mean. I will be using it to throw in the car and for dayhikes. and yes I edc a backpack.

We're still not on the same page. EDC means what you carry with you all the time every day, the keyring set and that belt pouch with a leatherman or whatever. Some guys say they have a neck kit. Some say that carry murses everywhere. I wouldn't consider a bag for your car an EDC item.

For your use, day hikes and a truck bag, I agree with all the options listed above. I also like the 5.11 24 and 72 pack. They are a little longer than the Maxpeds in my opinion. If you're gonna get a Maxped, consider Two Wolves. Great folks who are "one of us".
