Yes, another EDC dilema thread :)

So I have settled on trying out an Active Duty as an EDC. More specifically a BAD, or one of the leaner models around .15 to .17 or so. The one thing I am hung up on is the grind.
Flat bonrey slicer or a little thicker with a saber grind?

oh yeah...one of them flast grinds.....it flies fast through any substance~!!!!

Flat grind for EDC if you ask me. Unless you're really hard on the AD you won't need the extra metal of a saber.

Normally I would say saber, but for a small edc I would say flat. As mikeymoto said, "Unless you're really hard on the AD you won't need the extra metal of a saber."

But, if I had a choice, it would be saber... I love saber grinds. ;)

I have the BAD. It is a slicer!

I like the look of the Saber's, especially the muddy/tan canvas. But I find that the thinner knives are better for my needs.

I'm carrying a hollow-grind BOSS St. I love it for slicing, but I wouldn't EVER pry with it. I carry a Scrapivore for that duty.
it's the one on the left :-)

If you intend it as an edc cutting tool/slicer, go with flat. even if you happen to need to pry with it, it will be strong enough with a flat grind.

If you intend it as an edc chopper, saber will add weight to the blade and help keep the balance forward. If your primary use is prying and abusive tasks, you might consider going with the saber.

Thanks for the input everyone :thumbip:

Good call on the Scrapivore, I picked one up a week ago. I love it but more as a piggyback for a larger blade. I need something a little more interesting for an EDC.

I have my eye on a nice BAD hopefully she will be mine!

Flat here!!! Less resistance as your pulling through your work. I like the Sabres doing some chores but to EDC, Flat Bro...

also, go with the BAD if you intend on using it as a cutter, go with the standard AD if you intend on using it as a beater. The bad's have thinner edges, thinner overall grinds, and are kept at the highest end of INFI's rockwell hardness (62) instead of the standard AD's 58-60rc.

Thanks guys  I just scored a black canvas BAD from another forum member. The full height flat grind sounds ideal for cutting duty. Now I need to figure out the best IWB option.

If I really like it I'm sure I'll end up getting one of the thicker models.... the INFI bug is hard to shake!

Congrats on the score!

Side note: Another reason why I said 'saber' is because I always carry a CRK Sebbie or Spyderco Para-Military (the Sebbie see's more pocket time) for my slicing chores (albeit the Sebbie is saber ground, it's only .135ish thick & I don't see much of a difference in slicing at that thickness).

Thanks man.
I also have both a small regular Seb and a Para. Both of them are slicing machines for sure. Right now I have a small XM I convexed as my folder of choice.....wheres the Busse folder Boss???? Now with the BAD I'll have the option of going fixed for a slicer. I have a SAR3 for a all atound EDC sized beater. I rotate what I keep in my Bill's Urban wallet, and EDC bag.
