I've taken the pivot pin and blade out a few times to clean out gunk. The blade, pin and washers are a bit tricky to align when re-assembling, but nothing you should worry about if you take your time.
Personally, I would rather leave the stop pin alone, since that controls the open stroke and therefore the lock up position. If I ever did have to take it out, I would for sure mark the pin so I could get it back in the exact same position.
