I am looking for a fixed blade to serve as edc. We have a maximum length of 4". I would like something that could serve as a defensive carry that isn't too obtrusive. And something that looks good enough to wear with casual dress. Nothing too cheap looking, but nothing that will break the bank either.

You can give Strider knives a try. The MFS (My First Strider) has a 3.25" blade and is only $175. Great deal. I cannot wait to get one. Also look at the Busse's they are a little more expensive, and then look at Mad Dogs; a bit more expensive. Have a look around.

Of course look at the Emerson Tiger shark. Never used or held it but its got some good reviews.

I prefer Mad Dogs, but everyone has their preferences. I am sure other people have their favorite choices to. Good luck! Let me know if you need further details, ect...

Hey Dennis,

Have you looked at the Camillus CQB 2? Legal single edge and blk/gray micarta scales. Blade length is right at 4" and it has a versatile kydex sheath system (Mini Tek-lok and IWB loop w/snap).
Plus it's also a Terzuola design. List is $180, but can be gotten for around $110-$120.

I bought one and was a little disappointed as the blade stock was supposed to be 5/32" and they decided to make them in 1/8". I would have like the thicker blade but have gotten used to the size. Also some think the handle is a tad small, but I thick it's only if you have large hands. I like the size and it carries well for me and I have size 10 hands.

Good luck in your search! :)

I assume that you're looking for Mr. Caracci's input here, but I'll throw in my $.02 if it will help. I bought a knife from a forumite ( Chris Hatin ) back in July...............LOVED the knife. Calls it a TEC Fighter, and it's a STOUT SOB. Blade is right at 4in. You can find his web site at HatinTEC.com. Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like to handle one, as I live in the Knoxville area. I'd be glad to let you try it out for a bit. Hope this helps.

Go with the strider WP2. 4 Inch fixed blade quarter inch stock. you can't break it, comes with kydex sheath. nice knife. (i dont like the looks of the MFS.

imho either the CRKT comapnion, MOD razorback, or cammilus CQB2 would fill the bill for ya ............

Check out Darrel Ralph's ALB (he can do G10 instead of CF). 4" recurve in your choice of materials. I love Darrel's knives.

Trace Rinaldi has a knife called the LEO that looks awesome, though might be a bit heavy at 3/16" thick (but you can change that, if you want to, since it's a custom). A TTKK or Chimera w/4" blade would rock, too.

Greg Lightfoot Mini-Hammer I think has a 4" blade (pic at www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com -also click on "tactical fixed blades" for more eye candy!). Looks like it has great ergos.

That Camillus CQB2 looks pretty slick, and a Nimravus Cub might fit the bill, and I like the Camillus Talon personally. I don't see alot of production knives in this size range that appeal to me, unfortunately.

Bob Dozier.

Just bought my third at the NY show. :D
It was a model 6, double ground (single edge) 3 15/16" blade, with ivory micarta. That one isn't on his site though.
Up until now it was the Personal Utility. Great little knife, about the same size as my CRKT Mirage wharnie when it is open.
Bob's D-2 is excellent and his knives are sharp!
His kydex work is top shelf too.

I ordered a TOPS Sea Wolf for that very purpose. Haven't gotten it yet though, so I can't tell you how well it works.

I have a Darrel Ralph ALB with full thickness handle on it, and it is my EDC on weekends. I mean, I love that knife. Comfortable and secure in every grip, changes grips very confidently, cuts like a demon, gives excellent tip and belly. It rocks. It is a little hard to get Darrel to slow down and make a fancy version, but the knife looks very nice in plain micarta, and comes with a very good sheath.

Dennis -- You know what you really want. A Blackwood small tac/utility. I just bought one off a formite and received it this week. Great little knife. Small and sweet. But I like small. This beauty is thin and feels great in the hand.

Mine has the black g-10 with red spacers and mosaic pins. The blade is D2. I can see this one coming in handy a lot. From hiking/camping/mt biking to fixed edc street carry.

Go get one. Looks to be perfect for the job you want it for.

You must have read my mind. That is exactly what I ordered a few days ago.

Great Dennis, you will really enjoy it.

Well, I must confess when I was purchasing mine from a formite I did all kinds of searches on BFs (best resource going for knives). Of course I came across your name a few times so I kind of knew you really wanted one.

I am very happy with the one I got. What specs did you end up ordering. Give me some details. Did you go with D2 or another steel?

The anticipation may kill you. I was dying just waiting for mine to come in the mail. But it will be worth it.

D2 with that cool looking wood he has used on some others. Havent dcided on tactical or hunter grind though.

Their are so many good fixed edc knives out there! some maker's names that come to mind are Kurt Meerdink, Steve Corkum, and Chris hatin.

I 2nd the Dozier knives for your intended purpose. Just picked up a Companion at the NY show. It's craftmanship and appearance is outstanding.
