Hello

I am searching form a new EDC fixed blade.
What do you guys think of the Ka-bar TDI 1493 Investigator for EDC?
And is this a fair match up against the Esee Izula? I mean, I'm not sure yet which one will do the job best. Hence my question to you.

I'm curious of your opinions.

I don't want to do anything special. The main purpose, as you said about the Izula, is just daily use. In the worst case the ability to defend myself. You can never be to careful these days.

Esee Izula I or II all day every day. Literally. Super convenient to just toss it in the pocket and get it when you need it.

I don't want to post a huge wall of text, so I'll leave out the legal and training discussions about SD knives.

Just from a functional "cutting stuff" perspective, a knife that works well for everyday use is very different from one that works well for Serious Business. Mostly in the blade length specification: a 3" blade is fine for rope and envelopes, but you want a little more sharpened surface if you're going to discuss somebody else's bad behavior.

The Investigator is more of a hold-out knife, that you can fall back to if you don't have your primary, or as a retention aid, in case you're worried that somebody is going to try and take your pistol away from you.

In terms of EDC use, I do suggest to also take a look at Izula II, that extra half inch of handle makes all the difference. And here are a few more selections in case you are interested:

Brisa Bobtail

Imho, there is only so much you can do with a sub 3'' blade. For EDC I would prefer a 3.5-4" blade length. 2.75'' is just too small for pretty much anything I use a fixed blade for. Everybody has different needs though I suppose.
