Looking for a good EDC Fixed Blade. Was thinking about the RAT Cutlery IZULA or the RC3. How much of a pain would it be to conceal the RC3 as apposed to the IZULA? And how does the IZULA feel in the hand? is it small and feel too short? I have medium sized hands i would say. Ive got my eye on the RC3 but as an EDC concealed carry knife which would be better?

Any other suggestions?

Well what do you use your EDC fixed blade for?

I have the Becker Necker in both 1095 CroVan and in San Mai. I would recommend either one.

If you're looking for an EDC as a last resort weapon, I've seen HideAway Knives recommended as well as the Emerson La Griffe which I personally own.

I've found my fixed blades built and sized like the RC3 don't really become EDC's but rather knives I carry once a week if that, and otherwise use when I'm going outdoors to hike or run around in the woods. For true EDC, something like the Izula or Spyderco Swick works well for me.

Regarding the Izula, I have larger than average hands and with a cord wrapped handle it gives me a full grip.

I just recieved a Bark River Mini Canadian today. I will be using that as my new EDC. I had it on my belt all day today and it never gets in the way and it looks great with the Ivory Micarta. I may get a pocket sheath from Knivesshipfree.com and add my Peak Eiger flashlight with it when I feel like keeping it in my pocket. This is my first Bark River Knife and I love it! I'm already saving for my next one from them. I must add, I bought the knife from DLT Trading and I was very happy with their service. I wish I could say the same thing for the service I got from Peak when I bought my light. Love the light, wish they did a better job with their website and service.

Check this knife out. It is made by newberry knives. He sells on bladeforums in the makers section. I have had mine for about six months. It is my go to knife . I love it,it feels great in the hand and holds a great edge. Here is the link. The knife I am talking about is in the second picture down. I have the natural micarta one.

The izula/sheath you can drop in your front pocket no problem

Good point. If it's a wood/box/misc cutter vs. a people cutter (self defense). I only EDC a fixed blade when I can't concealed carry ...other options. Hide away knives are good "social solutions"; my favorite is my Kabar TDI

I can't really think of a situation where I would EDC a survival type blade where I would have to be discreet about the size.

i just got an izula. it is a great knife and i really like it. the only thing that i would change is the sheath. the factory one is great for around the neck but if you want to carry it on your belt you will first have to get a tek lok, or something similar, and then attach it. the only problem that i could see happening is having to constantly take off the tek lok isf you want to neck it. now if you are just going to belt carry it this shouldn't be an issue. also consider your local laws about blade length. you might be limited to 3" which would make the izula perfect. if you dont have any blade length restrictions i would still get the izula because it is compact, lightweight, and hardly noticeable. plus RAT cutlery's warranty is probably the best in the business.

When I went on a business trip to Florida last month, I left the sebenza behind and packed the izula.
It is extremely thin in profile, and fits very well in a front pocket (with just the standard sheath). It is also a very tough little knife. It's extremely versatile, in that with the kit that comes for an extra $8 you can belt carry/neck carry/pocket carry the same knife. Whatever you can think of, you can do it. If you were going for the full monte, there are several sheath makers that cater to the izula and similar sized knives. I've seen leather and kydex sheaths that are perfect for making the izula a solid EDC choice.
Check out the RAT cutlery forum here for more info.

If i wanted to carry the IZULA clipped onto my pocket what and where would i need to get for it? and how much would it cost? TEK lock?

I really like the look of the RC3 MIL over the IZULA. I like the thinner edge too and the extra bit of length and all the other carry options too. I also think the canvas micarta handles look great and would probably feel great too. However im looking for an EDC knife that is going to be concealed and i am worried that the handle on the RC3 MIL will be a little too bulky to conceal the knife well. So i guess im leaning towards the IZULA. Anyone else have any experience with EDCing there RC3 concealed?

I have both the Izula and the RC-4. If it was me I would get the RC-3. I've noticed that while the Izula is an extremely tough little blade, it is a bit thick for real good slicing, the RC-4 is the same as well. I carry my RC-4 daily and sometimes will carry the Izula if the RC-4 is dull and waiting to be sharpened. If I could have afforded it I would have picked up the RC-4 and the RC-3. I dont care for skeleton blades though so I am a bit biased. Either way you cannot go wrong with a RAT! As for carrying the RC-3 every day concealed I do not see any problem arising...my RC-4 is hard to spot on me unless your looking for a belt knife, I dont wear shirts that dont fit me nor do I wear a 10 year olds shirt either and you can really only see the very tip of the sheath.

you can find tek loks online. i tried to find one in person to no avail. you could do what i ended up doing which was getting a custom kydex sheath/G clip done by a fellow forumite. which in my opinion is a better deal.

Definitely the Izula then, unless you dont mind wearing a belt knife with a suit and tie! Unfortunately I dont have that sort of carry exp because its hell to get me into even a dress shirt!:D, I'll stick with cargo/camo pants, Danner boots and t-shirts! If I were to wear a suit and tie though I would look for something a bit classier than a hard use RAT and it probably would be a folder

If you wanted somthing for a large amount of utility/everyday needs that will hold up admirably in a combat/selfe defense role, you may want to look into a Benchmade Nim Cub II. Awsome knife for the money.

Izula is awesome. I EDC it from time to time and the sheath gives many
carry options.

Another one is the HAK, Hide Away Knife. Though some ppl regard it more
as a self defense blade and not an EDC. I myself found it very useful for
EDC and it's super light and small so it blends in with the rest of your gear/stuff.
Also TONS of carry options. It is pricey though and you will get more value
out of the Izula. Or you could just be like me and get both! LOL!

I EDC fixed blades more frequently than folders, I live in a very hot and humid area and they are easier to mantain. An old Ontario RAT 3 in D2 is my absolute favourite, the size is perfect for anything you might need a knife for on a daily basis and it's thin enough to be carried in most of my pants' pockets.

There are a lot of options out there, though, depending on what you like. The Izula is certainly a great knife, so is the Bark River Bravo Necker (and several other small Barkies), Becker Necker (I stripped the paint off of mine and convexed the edge), Fallkniven WM1, A.G. Russell Woodwalker (the blade is really thin, it's a wicked cutter), BM Snody Resistor (out of production but still available at decent prices from e-Bay), Charles May FireAnt, Blind Horse Knives patch knife, etc.

I EDC a fixed blade. I have two I switch out: a Busse BATAC (5.5" blade), and a Busse SJTAC (6.25" blade). I use kydex IWB sheaths. A little bigger than most people's EDCs, I know, but it works for me. I also have a pocket sheath for the BATAC, with a stud that catches on the seam at the top of the pocket (every time... very reliable), so sometimes I just drop that in my front pocket.
