I am looking for an affordable EDC Fixed Blade knife.
Blade length 3.5 to just under 4".
Spear point (preferred) or drop point, little if any guard.
Blade thickness: not a prybar but not a paring knife either.
Traditional in appearance a major plus.

This blade will peel apples and cut bread, but may end up as a bushcraft knife in a pinch.

I know that there are great custom makers who could make just what I want, but I am looking for ease of replacement as well as lower cost. i.e. less than $50.

Anyone have any good suggestions or am I just shooting to low on price.

Thanks for your input.

ESEE/RAT RC-3 MIL  Pony up another $25 - $30 & get one.

A Mora 2000 might be a good one in that range.

Another good one that is a little shorter and more expensive is the ESEE RC 3.

Look at the Vexillarius from swamp rat. 4" blade approx .140 thickness, D2 steel. Carries very nice, takes and holds great edge. I have seen one in the past week for around $ 140
good luck!

I can't personally recommend this because I do not have one but the Boker Dozier Achorage Pro Skinner has been on my radar for a while now. Money's been a bit tight recently which is why it's not mine yet. But have a look anyways.

I do have the RAT (ESEE) RC-4 but it is a 4.25" blade and over $50. Another to consider and a great knife.

Falkniven F1 all the way. A very civilised looking fixed blade that's very strong without a threathening appaerance.

You can consider the Cold Steel SRK. Though the blade is 5 inches it is just right i feel. They keep coming up on ebay for less than USD 50. I just picked up one in Carbon V last week in mint condition!

What do you think about these Queen knives? I dont own one, but have owned a couple of their slip joints -great knives. To top it off, they use D2 tool steel and make their blades in the US. They have an obtuse edge from the factory and with some sharpening that can be changed to your preference. They are just under your maximum price.

Ooohh...good choice! That D2 dropped point hunter is a heck of a value.

The Benchmade Rant is also worth thinking about, but I would go with the Queen in micarta if given the choice.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Under 4" is a must as I don't want to run run afoul Tennessee knife carry laws. This something I want to be able to keep in my backpack at work, so the less imtimidating the better. I do like the SRK and already have one, but it is just to long and thick for my purposes.
I hadn't really thought of Boker but I 'll definitely take a look.
Again, Thanks to eveyone for their input, please keep 'em coming.:D
