I use knives ALOT. These days it would be socially acceptable to carry a small fixed blade on my belt. Nothing tactical. Just a stout little blade to cut stuff. I had thought about adding a handle to Becker kneck. Any suggestions

I carry a RAT-4 on my belt regularly.

I've seen a few Becker Neckers with slabs put on, looked nice.

How "little" are you talking? I carry a Bark River Pro Scalpel II, but for a "stout little blade", that screams Imp or Tusk....

I believe Bark River Knives have a convex grind?
I once bought a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp that also had a convex grind.
I could never get that thing sharp. I followed all of the crazy instruction but still dull as a toothbrush. Eventually I sold the thing.
Will I have the same trouble with the Bark River?

A Busse Game Warden would make for a sweet little fixed blade. You can still find them if you check the Busse classifieds on this forum and eBay.

Just got the becker necker and I like it alot. The price was right and with some handles i think it will be perfect for everyday chores.

The game warden is out because of the cost. I work in peoples homes a lot sometimes I loose things. If I loose $100 I will be sad. If I loose a $300? Busse I'll be in the dog house forever.
I do like Dan Koster's EDC. I just spent a while on his websight.

For a small tough FB, look to the custom makers here as gazz suggested. You'd be surprised how much knife you can get for a reasonable cost.

I recently EDC a RAT Izula. It is a very compact knife, can fit in the pants pocket nicely. With the sheath, it weight only 3 oz. And the price is not that expensive.

Don't fear the convex grind. They are the EASIEST grind to resharpen. Seriously. The BEST small FB I've ever used is my BRKT Mini-Canadian. I call it "the best little Big-knife in the world". There are many tutorials out there to teach you just how easy it is to maintain a convex edge.

I carry a Leu Kozuka. This is a light, slim and very sharp knife. Check-out, Leu Custom Knives. His prices will surprise you.

Here's a pair new from Buck last year - the 005GYS and 005RWS 'Gen5s'. The charcoal birch handled one is great - 420HC - and comes with a horizontal belt carry nylon sheath that can be, due to the velcro belt loops, carried vertically on a pack's strap. I use it more than the 'upgrade' version. They run ~$55 mail order.

The rosewood & brass upgrade has really nice CPM154 steel - and a bit grippier feel to the handle, as well as the aforementioned vertical drop sheath. I'd prefer a mix - the rosewood/brass with the slick finish of the charcoal birch, the CPM154 steel, and the horizontal carry nylon sheath. As for me, I carry the cheaper one most of the time. Despite chopping up some kindling and a few boxes, with only a swipe or two on a Semichrome paste-charged strop, it's still razor sharp. Both blades are Paul Bos heat-treated. While they are stout enough for most cutting, at .137" at the spine & tang, they aren't meant for batonning.

While I tote the cheaper one most as a woods-walker, they are both 'keepers' - and often overlooked.

PS The usual double bevel edge from Buck, although I do like my convex edges, too - but only after I somewhat mastered their strop/hone procedure.
