Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and to be honest I made the account just to ask you for help.

So I'm looking for a medium to large EDC folder under 50€ for general cutting tasks (boxes, cardboard, letters, etc).
I don't care about blade steel as long as it isn't that misterious chinese steel.
I would prefer more pointy blade over a wide one.
Lock should be a framelock or linerlock but backlock is O.K as well.
Handle material? G-10, FRN, anything really as long as it's not an all stainless steel handle because I'm looking for a more "tactical-ish" knife.
And please no assisted or automatic blades.

Also you should know that I'm not from the USA and some, if not all, knives are way more expensive here. For example many people suggest the Kershaw Leek as a great EDC blade that is under the 50$ price tag, well in my country it costs 70€ so it's way off my budget.

I would love to hear your suggestions.

Have a great day!

Ontario Rat 1
-Aus 8 steel
-FRN handles
Perfect edc imo

Spyderco Tenacious
-8cr13mov steel (chinese equivalent to aus 8)
-g10 handles

Or if you can, save up for the kershaw blur in s30v. Its around 65$ US if I'm not mistaken. The handle is aluminum with these textured rubber inserts. It's assisted but you can find YouTube videos on how to take the s0ring out.

I'd recommend a rat 2 for edc of mundane tasks. Rat 1 is too much knife. Maybe if you are camping in the woods.

Can't go wrong with anything from Buck knives. I like the 110 folding hunter with a 3 3/4 inch blade, the 112 is the same with an even 3 inch blade. Both have clip points which is plenty pointy. Many on these boards say that Buck has the best 420 HC steel, I find that the edge lasts a long time and sharpens nice with a steel. These are knives with heft, if your after anything light go check out buckknives.com as they have a variety of knives, even some that use the same blades as the 110 or 112 but in lighter frames. Actually if you don't mind using a sheath, the 2 I've listed would be perfect for your purpose. As for your price I find the prices listed on Bucks website are around 25-50% higher than retail.

Rat 1 gets my vote. Great medium/large inexpensive folder. Pointier than it looks too.

You could look at the Spyderco Tenacious and Bryd line of knives. Kershaw has a lot of offerings in that price range as well.

I'm really digging my Kershaw Scrambler I just recently received.

Sturdy frame lock. Got good heft to it and feels good in the hand. Flipper and assisted. And the g10 is done well, adds the right amount of grip, while also adding a more "classy" look to the knife rather a tactical look. They're typically found for around $30-35 U.S., so should fall close to that $50 mark, give or take a little.

The Kershaw Clash, Volt II, Freefall, and Oso Sweet are all
Cheaper assisted flippers with liner locks and GFN handles, but would fit you're criteria, gives you a few different styles to suit your taste.

Hello there,
I really appreciate your help. I expected these two knives to appear and I can't decide which one I should take. What's your opinion? Thanks again.

Considering your parameters......Spyderco Resilience. but realize that it has a LARGE blade.

I have the rat I and 2. I find myself carrying the rat 2 a little more but if I had to choose, would probably pick the 1. My next purchase will probably be a buck, but not the 110. I already have an original Schrade Lb7. and I'd look for something flippier and lighter. The buck 110 is an icon for good reason but it is heavy for an edc.

For a folding knife $50 US I would definitely go with a Cold Steel knife.

If you shop around you can find a Recon 1, Finn Wolff, Voyager, and Code 4 for around $50.

^problem is (I thought about those as well), they are right about at the $50 mark in the u.s., but the op stated the foreign markups are pretty high where he's at, so likely would be more if he found them available.

A knife that gets overlooked often but imho is pretty good: the Kershaw Injection 3.0 (medium) or 3.5 (large) and certainly not too expensive.

If you weren't looking for something "tactical-ish" with a lock on the blade, Victorinox Alox Pioneers are generally easy to find in the EU in your price range and work great for EDC for the types of tasks you describe. The slipjoint on them is very solid, and the ribbed alox is grippy compared to smooth handle finishes (of course it's no G10). They work so well for this kind of use that you describe, that my Kershaws stay in the drawer these days.

Otherwise, I vote for the Ontario Rat 1 or 2. They are very good knives for the money. Must be someone on Ebay shipping them internationally.

Victorinox also have linerlock blades on some of their knives. Go to victorinox.com and you might find what you want. They ave a spear point but I find it's plenty doable though not as good as a clip point.

Ontario rat 1
Spyderco tenacious
Buck vantage the basic one
Buck bucklite max
Kabar gilding doizer hunter
Most any SAK.

Do'h! I forgot all about the 111mm SAKs. If interested, you might consider the One Handed Trekker, which can be found in both serrated and non-serrated versions.

The Spyderco Delica can be had for $55 here in the U.S. but I have no idea what they cost in your country.
