I generally use my edc for light work--opening letters and boxes, primarily.

I just handled the folding Ergohunter and found the fit and ergos very nice. I realize it is designed as a skinner, but was wondering what peoople thought of adopting it for casual use. Would there be any problem using it for my kind of duty? Would the blade be too thick for what I would be using it for, e.g.?

My thanks for your advice.

Too thick? Heck no!

And if you need a little more strength.....you'll have reserve.

:)

My thought is that the tip is too thick for an EDC. My preferance for an EDC is a nice slim working tip vantage style or better yet 181 Odyssey style.

What does it mean - "heck" ?
(Sorry for OFF-top)

It's just an expression, a form of exclamation. It probably stems from the word "hell" when used in the same context, when the word "hell" is too strong or impolite for the social setting.

I just took mine out and considered your question while holding the knife. While I'm sure I could do the things you mention with it, I'm also sure that there are Buck models that will do those tasks better and or easier. I open alot of boxes and envelopes around here and the knife I usually use is a 301 or a 307. The sheepsfoot blade works great as a box cutter and the clip point excels as a letter opener. Of course, they don't have the "sex appeal" that the Ergo does.:p

Like you said, the Ergo was more designed as a skinner, than as a box cutter or letter opener. :)

Igor,
It is the non curse/swear version of "hell"...Ex instead of "What the hell are you doing?!"...... in company of children, women etc I would be "What the heck are you doing?!"

Dont worry about being off subject to ask for a clarification, we are glad to help(just dont ask 110dave cause thats a translation problem all to itself:D:p
decoder ring needed)

On to the subject at hand, I plan to give an ergo Avid a try and will pocket carry it on rotation. If it doesnt work out, oh well...still sweet looking knives worth having and can find field use for. I cant figger the price difference between the pro and the avid, it is inconsistant, it seems to me, with the price points of others like the Vantage.
