I've never had the chance to handle this knife. Everytime I went to the only spyderco dealer, he had sold out. Kind of funny, cause its like 2 hours away from me, and I always end up with a list of spydies I want to handle...and they have none of them. Anyway, the blade shape, tip, and especally the thick looks exactly what I want. Its also going to replace my BM 630 which just isn't doing it. A nice knife, but blade shape, lock..isn't working out for me. I'd like to hear about any pros or cons with this chinook, and best place to buy one.

I would warn you that the Chinook may be too big for EDC, but since you already have been carrying a Skirmish I'll skip that part. The Chinook is a completely solid knife. If you don't care for the Skirmish framelock, perhaps the Chinook's lockback is for you. It's overbuilt in just about everyway. The only thing left to think about is blade shape and think whether the Chinook will cut it for your EDC needs. I think in most cases it will, but for me the Manix fits the bill better. Personal preference.

As I said in your other post, I EDC a Chinook II, and a 630. If I was going to use my Chinook for everyday cutting, I would opt for the flat ground Manix instead. Either knife is a great choice, but depending on why you didn't care for the 630 blade(recurve maybe??) the Manix might be the better "user" knife. No telling. I have had no problem cutting anything with my Chinook.

I also think that the Manix is probably a better utility knife overall. I have both a Manix and a Chinook II, and they get carried about equally. I think either makes a great EDC knife, with a slight advantage to the Manix. The Chinook II is more of a tactical knife. Both are great, so why not get both? :D
