I'm going to be in Ireland for about a week and was wondering what, if anything, I could carry legally. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If there is a favorite watering hole or other point of interest that I should not miss, please feel free to pass that along as well.

Thanks in advance.

I walked around various parts of Europe for about six months with a Victornox Spartan and a 3 inch Lockback without a problem but, I didn't really attract enough attention to warrant a pat down by the local police.

A reasonable sized folder buried deep in your pocket won't attract much attention unless you flash it around.

you are a lucky man. I love that country. In Dublin make sure to sign on for the Literary Pub Crawl--you'll see handbills on walls and there'll be mention of it in your guidebook. A couple of Irish actors take a bunch of people around to the old historic bars of Dublin where James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, etc., etc., used to hold forth. I lost count of how many we went to. Inside if it's not too noisy and out front if it is, the actors do recitations of work by each author.
My practice in foreign countries is to carry a SAK and Outdoor Edge Wedge--versatile knives I wouldn't cry over if lost. Have fun

i live in n. ireland, the only thing you'll be able to carry LEGALLY ;) is a SAK (or anything else with no lock and under 3 inch blade) :barf:

I believe there are quite a few "watering-holes" in Ireland.  I'm sure a discretely carried folder won't cause much of an uproar. Have fun!

BTW, pack any "cutlery" in checked baggage.

Go directly from the airport to Mitchell and Son and buy a bottle of Redbreast and a bottle of Greenspot Irish Whiskies. Retrace steps upon departure. :) Definitely check out The Brazen Head. Believed to be the oldest bar in Europe there has been a pub there since Viking times. And, as a bonus, they pour an excellent pint of stout.

I agree with the recomendation of an SAK. I've also taken a Spyderco Cricket, being the least offensive looking locking knife I know of, but be aware that they take their knife laws very seriously. Probably not worth the hassle. Have fun. Wish I was going along.

Back when I was a sailor we stopped in Ireland and N.Ireland. The only pub I can actually remember the name of was the Foggy Dew in Dublin. If you can't find it don't worry, just drop into the nearest one you can find. They're all pretty good and the people are great. (Got a great tattoo there, as well.)

Knife content: I kept my Buck Duke in my pocket 'cause it was friendly-looking and since I stay out of trouble it was never an issue.
