EDC frame lock question

I just received my EDC. Seems like a nice little knife. However, this is my first experience with a frame lock or anything similar. I notice that when the blade is locked, the cantilevered end of the frame that locks the blade open only slides about 50% of the way over the end of the blade. In other words, the lock bar only overlaps about half of the end of the blade thickness. Is this normal? Should the lock and the blade fully align when the blade is locked? Should I be concerned about this?

ejt,
That sounds about right for a new EDC....keep in mind, on of the advantages of a frame lock is that you have a wider range of acceptable engagement due to the wider locking areas.

I would expect that after some use, your EDC will settle in@ around 70% of the lock bar engaging the tang of the blade. We have not experienced any lock failures[knock oon wood!] with the EDC, so you should be fine:)

Mine was just like that when I got it, and it hasn't changed a mm that I can tell in the 6 months of use that I've put it through. Awesome little knife. Heck, awesome knife, period, even if it is little. It was my main camp knife for a week camping in CO, AZ, and UT. Had a couple of other blades with me, but I used it for 90% of the cutting work.

Yeah, I'm getting a little more comfortable with it. I do think I'm going to like it like you do. Does it stay closed tight for you? I notice it opens easily (VERY easily) but does not seem to have a real strong positive grip in teh closed position. Any comments on that? Guess I'm just trying to get used to a new design - used to Spydercos.

Mine seems to open about as easily as my well-used Military, or any of my other liner-locks (both of them ;) ). Any harder, and I'd have to put the thumb stud back on it (I don't like thumb studs at all; I've yet to see one that is small enough).

No, I was more concerned about how securely it stays closed. Doesn't quite feel like it is held as securely as I might like for pocket carry. Wondered if you had any problem with the blade sliding a little open, risk of exposing the tip, etc.

No problems with the blade opening unintentionally on mine, with the exception of the one or two times I've actually dropped it. Otherwise, it stays closed very well. I've carried it in my pocket, inside my waist band, clipped to my pocket, and tossed down in 'ditty bags' when I'm climbing, backpacking, or whatever. Always has stayed closed with no problem. Can you tell if your ball detent is missing?

Ball is in place, & it is engaging fine. Guess I just am not used to the easy opening action. Thanks for all your suggestions.
