Hi,

I'm new to this forum, posting for the first time. I heard that Busse knives have big handles and are very suitable for big guys (Jerry?) with big hands. The EDC handle looks smaller, were there a NO made with the EDC handle?

Thanks a lot in advance guys.

You are right the EDC handle is much smaller, but that is because it is designed for a much smaller knife. I don't think the standard handles are really large. I have medium sized hands and have a Magnum handled NO and it is a great fit. You should be fine with a the standard SF handle.

The handle designation is for a specific geometry in handle part of the steel. The EDC is designed for a small blade which is why it looks smaller. The thing is, it probably isn't any different in thickness compared to the handles on bigger knifes. So using an EDC handle on a NO for example would be like bonding a popsicle stick to a ruler. The size difference is that significant. The way the handle options are displayed on the site for ordering are not to scale so I could see how that might look attractive. Go here http://www.bussecombat.com/gallery/ and you can see the difference in the knives. The active duty which is an EDC model is 7 3/4" OAL. The NO with SF handles is 12 3/4" OAL.

Unless you have really small hands, you should be stoked with a NO!

Another thing about what you may have heard about fat handles... A lot of people are using their Busses for heavy chopping or other heavier uses in any case. A wider "backstrap" on the knife is better at distributing the stresses across your hand. That could be why you hear more chatter about fatter handles; because many are seeking thicker handles for these uses. Busse provides them if you want them

Hi Dunner,

Thanks very much for enlightening me. I went to the gallery website and the company store. What is the difference between the double cut and the standard, I can't seem to see the difference. Also is the double cut automatically finished in Satin?

Once again, thanks very much for your replies.

Hey Ratcoon, I am glad I could help. I am actually relatively new at this myself. There is a very knowledgable and dedicated community here and I feel I need to live up to that expectation after all I have learned here. The standard finish when ordering is actually the black crinkle coat. The two finishes you are comparing are probably the Satin and Double Cut. There was a recent thread on this which I will try to track down for you.

Basically Satin is raw and somewhat polished INFI steel. Double Cut is actually a blasted steel finish. It is different from what most makers do in that Busse uses ceramic medium in the blasting process. Instead of blasting tiny pits into the steel as other bead blasting processs do, the ceramic is supposed to act like tiny ball peen hamers and actually (reportedly) closes off the steel and increases its corrosion resistance.

That is my understanding of it anyway. Hopefully some of the INFI Hogs will come along soon to add to this.
